Default Sprint PCS and the 8700 - 03-08-2006, 11:56 AM

Does anybody have any new information on the 8700 comming to Sprint?
I know everything seemed to be put on hold with the lawsuit, but now that it is over I hope it comes out soon

Thanks

I have done a ton, and back in sept - oct of last year, you can find a bunch of people talking that the 8700 would be out for Verizon and Cingular and Sprint.
I assumed that the reason it is not out for the systems it is not out for yet, is do to the lawsuit.
If that is not the reason, and it is because it has not been designed, then oh well, guess I will get the 7250.

Anybody have a reason why I should not get the 7250 and hold my breath for the 8700 on Sprint?

First it had to go through the exclusive period that Cingular has with BB. Second I think it will be out on T Mobile before the rest. I would give VZW and Sprint about at least 6 months before they see the 8700 series any where on there service. The law suite had nothing to do by them not having it.

***moved to rumor mill***

If they did come out with it, I am sure there would be a lot of happy campers

I will be meeting with our Sprinxtel or Nexint team (whatever they want to be called) on Friday and will ask about their 8700-like device. I haven't even heard a rumor about it.

Bell Mobility is working on releasing a version of the 8700, due out around possibly Christmas time. Since Bell Mobility is aligned with Sprint and thier hardware, I would assume that Sprint would also be getting the device before Bell Mobility does.

Last I heard, which was last month, Bell Mobility is aiming for the second half of this year. Realistically though, that usually means aleast 4th quarter before we actually see the device.
I hope that is what you were asking?

CDMA devices are normally months or years behind their GSM counterparts. Sprint was the last carrier to pick up the BlackBerry and Verizon seems to lag even the rest in bring out BlackBerrys. Just past experiences. Hence I asked which year, 2006 or 2007.

Very true, GSM is always ahead of CDMA, and always will be. I think the pressure is being put on to close the gap between the release of a GSM and CDMA devices. I find up here we are about 9 months or so behind the GSM devices, which is much better than it used to be.

I have put that aside and decided to hold off on SPCS releasing a 7130e counterpart that would be my perfect device with them. So good ole NXTL BB for now until then.

C'mon. I'm sure there's going to be an 8700 cdma model. Eventually. I beliebe gsm would get theirs first simply for the relationship RIM has with ATT/Cingular and simply because gsm is easier to develop for vs. Cdma (and its qualcomm patents.)

But I'd bet money we'd see a 7130e variant for sprint before an 8700.

if they've already made a housing for it(i've seen it-with diff tech inside), it's probably a sign that they will want to tap the cdma market.

I have had the 7250 for Sprint for about 5 months now and it has been great. If you could be sure the 8700 was out in the next month, then I'd say just wait, but who knows when it will be and the rumormill will only keep you frustrated. I loaded 4.1 from Telstra and have the MacBerry theme and love it. Just thought I'd answer that part for you. Good luck.

A SprintUsers.com poster who's fairly reliable has posted that Sprint will release its version of the 7130 THIS month!

http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96827

I hope it's true. At first I was very much opposed to the idea of a SureType keyboard, but considering that there's no sign in the horizon of a Sprint 8700, I'm ready to try the 7130. I've seen the VZW version in person and it looks great.

It's coming. October 2006 - just a couple of weeks. My communications consultant has the inside track and confirmed it will arrive very shortly 2-4 weeks.

Yeah no doubt, It's always sprint that lags now. I remember when the 7250's came out, and it took sprint so long to get those out.

I love my 7250, don't get my wrong, I call it the tank phone because it's been so good to me and sturdy and reliable, but I'm ready for the new stuff! hahaha plus i think im due for an equipment upgrade since it's been 18 months too.

If they come out with it in october, man , my pocket book will have a huge gaping hole. I just bought the verizon 8703e, and natrually, if sprint gets it, ill have to swap. Oh well, in the name of our gadgets and toys! hahahah

Please oh please come soon sprint 8700 series! hahahh

Good to hear southwestcomm - I have faith. I guess now that the Verizon folks are getting theirs, it is the Sprint folks' turn to start the countdown. Still no pics or FCC postings, but I'm guessing that will be forthcoming?
