I've even heard that in 2004, Nextel did a small beta test of a data network called Flarion (sp?) that would've blown EV-DO away for speed! 3G? Try more like 4G! We're talking speeds comparable to cable broadband and Verizon's new FIOS internet! Try d/l speeds of 4 mbps... wirelessly!!

Unfortunately for us all, this potentially awesome upcoming data technology was SCRAPPED by Sprint when they bought Nextel. And Sprint has also shut down the WiDEN network (Nextel's equivalent to EDGE), so there's no high speed data service at ALL on Nextel now!

So, all I can say is... goodbye Sprint, and go to hell!! It HASN'T been pleasant!

This is, of course, just MY opinion. If you're happy with your service from the Evil Empire, good for you! I can only hope that they don't some day screw you over they way they screwed over all the loyal Nextel customers!

Of course, that hope is in vain if you WERE one of the loyal Nextel customers.

I was a Nextel user at one point as well. I enjoyed fairly good coverage. But the carrier just never progressed out of the 90's. They still have slow data speeds (sorry, trials don't always translate to commercially viable technology).

From what I saw with Nextel, they hung onto their construction walkie talkie business for all it was worth. Ignoring the other markets where mobile to mobile minutes became standard and where shared usage plans actually meant sharing one bucket of minutes instead of two separate expensive plans.

From my perspective, Nextel peaked about two years before being purchased by Sprint.

I think Sprint actually got the short end of the transaction. They have old outdated technology that somehow needs to be incorporated to their CDMA network.

Nextel will probably be around as a marketing brand, however I thiink that nearly everything is going to be on Sprint technology. If they could get their QCHAT rumored walkie talkie going I bet they'd use the iden for niche large accounts and governmental.

I was once a Sprint customer until they messed up my bills to the point of no return. So I switched to Nextel....

I WAS a happy Nextel customer until they buyout, but kept with them....

UNTIL we had those massive storms at the end of November.... I had no power, no land phone, and no Cell signal... I called Sprint (from my neighbors Cingular phone) and they told me to call back in 72 hours....

Later that afternoon, I was and continue to be a happy Cingular customer. When Sprint told me that I would have to pay the early termination fee, I told them that they would have to pay for my new phone then (being THEY couldn't give me service)...

I have not heard from them again...

Hello all.....new member here. Great board here.

Have had a blackberry for over a year now, the 7520 (nextel).

I was wondering, is there a 7520 specific forum?

I also was wondering what youre thoughts are with regards to the most up to date and effecient blackberry model would be. Sorry for such a general question, it's a bit hard navigating through all these threads that are so technical!

Awsome to be around here. Many of these blackberry's put my 7520 to pure shame. I'd love to invest in a new BB! Thanks all......

Who, me?

Why, what ever gave you the idea that I might be bitter about my preferred carrier being bought out by an Evil Empire, and then flushed down the crapper?

I just can't imagine what might've given you that idea!

LOL!

Hey Dawg....good to find someone else that is a nextel client. I too am with them. I think it's great though I hate being teased by everyone else options to have phones that are a little more with the times, ya know.

I've got the 7520....how do you like your 7100i with nextel? the new model, I forgot what model the customer service guy told me, will be out very soon apparently.

when I had the 7520 I swore I would never switch to the 7100i becuase of sure type but I have to admit the 7100i is a decent phoneit took me about a week to get used to it but I can type just as fast or faster now.

I am loving all the new software that has been coming out for it as well.

Hey man, thanks for the response.

Cool to hear about the software thats been coming out for the 7100i, cause I sure to feel a bit like a dino sometimes with the 7520. I love the full keyboard, though all my phone prior to this, didn't have a full keyboard and I was just fine.

I'm patiently awating nextels next version, I think I may buy that one.

There too, are a whole bunch of things I've probably never known about the 7520, like last night I downloaded a new theme and it's great, feel a little bit like a new phone!!!

Though, I never got to see the pearl in person, I'd like to! I'm lovin the camera and the expansion memory slot. Wish I had that on my 7520

Default Something Up on Nextel.com

Noticed on the website that the 7520 Blackberry is now 319.99, does this mean we will soon see a new QWTRY version??????

Also noticed that the price jumped back up. I believe both Sprint and Nextel have 1 of each style blackberry phone (SureType, Qwerty). Sprint has the newer 8703 and also just got the Moto Q. I look at this thinking either (A) the 8700 is comming to Nextel (as the new Qwerty) or (B) the price was raised to drive people away from the 7520 and to the Q/sprint side.

Both of which would be very good for the company and sales. Option A would give new birth to the current nextel blackberry users. Option B will push users away from nextel, its good if the company wants it.

will nextel release a new blackberry or are they just messing with our heads because they must know we are getting tired of the 7100i and the 7250 they are both outdated (as far as technology goes). Me thinks nextel will not release anything new maybe some more motorola's but not blackberries

I think sooner or later Sprint will have to release the Pearl on both the Sprint and Nextel sides.... It's a best seller and now they have to compete with the iPhone... If they do not I along with others will be jumping ship in June...

Hey all, I had called up nextel to adjust the settings my phone has for the number of rings it does, and after the call I had said I wanted to ask something while I had him on the line.

I told him that prior to xmas, a rep. told me that either the end of xmas for the very very early start of the new year that nextel would have the new (7308c maybe?, I can't remember the model)....either way, this rep. that I spoke with most currently, said that Nextel users will NOT see any other blackberrys from nextel, sprint yes though the nextel blackberrys that are out will be it.

For personal reasons, i've to stick with blackberry, so that rules me out for getting a new blackberry anytime soon unless I've to swtich providers.

I wish i could live without PTT but in the construction industry it is almost a must have. I have had some of my contractors switch to the CDMA phones only to switch back because they could not communicate fast enough. I would love to switch back to cingular but unfortunately until somebody comes up with something i can use to communicate with my trades then i am stuck with my 7520. :(

Default Sprint doesn get it!

Why do they poo poo on us Nextel users! For God Sakes give us a new blackberry. The PTT is not going away anytime soon. What about a dual band, CDMA voice, IDEN PTT blackberry???? Sprint just doesnt realize the value of the PTT customers do they

The next generation Sprint CDMA devices will include QChat which is the CDMA equivalent to iDEN's PTT. It works very well but Sprint is waiting for EVDO REV A to ensure latency is minimal.
