Angry RIM Removed Filtering - Time to Protest?! - 06-15-2006, 08:02 AM

BB Internet Service website changed its interface a couple of months ago. I resisted for as long as I could but one day I accidently hit the "YES" to download the upgrade button. The new interface seemed fine until today...

The old system let users set filters and prioritize the filters. The new system does not allow this. When I called my carrier's cx service, I was told that RIM had decided that they were only a bridge and would not be storing or providing this filter feature anymore.

I'm with Telus but apparently this is a move by RIM across all carriers.

Am I right to think this is a time to protest this move since BB's core feature is portability? I should only access the e-mails I want when I'm on the road (i.e., I don't need all my e-mails forwarded to the handset, just specific ones).

Two big reasons for this: 1. since I'm charged for the data sent, it costs me significantly more to receive everything; and 2. I don't want to have to wade thru a bunch of e-mails to find the ones I'm looking for when I'm out of the office.

Like to hear other's take/comment on this as I am a relatively new user (and definitely not a power-user) and I may be missing some thing!

(BTW, what I was trying to do was set up a filter sequence so that when I'm on vacation only e-mails from 2 people in the company would be forwarded to my handset and not all the other stuff I get.)

cheers,

I'm on Cingular, using BIS 2.0. I just upgraded yesterday. While I don't use filters, it looks to me as if that option is still there for Cingular users, at least. Thus, perhaps it's more a carrier issue than a RIM issue.

Filters are still there, but you can't prioritize them. So I can't say:
1. forward e-mails "from" "boss1" to my handset
2. forward e-mails "from" "boss2" to my handset
3. do not forward e-mails with "to" & "me@work.com" to my handset

Before if I did this I would get msgs only from my 2 bosses and none others. Without being able to priortize, I don't think I can set this up.

you can set the main filter up that "if no filters apply, do not forward to handheld"
then set up filters to allow email only from your 2 bosses
