Thanks for the insightful response. Reading through the entire thread, as I've already done, there are two topics covered. First, using eMSN which I didn't want to do after reading some of the other feedback. Second is using an actual Microsoft issued app, Live Messenger. Since Microsoft has already issued an updated wap site along with a Search app for the BB I assumed the Live Messenger would be working as well. The other posts on the site regarding the MS app address service book issues. I do not get to this point, the link provided for the blackberry.com site directs me to access the link directly from my BB, and when I do so I receive the aforementioned error message. That is why my post was not "Where can I download it", but rather "Has anyone else on Verizon been able to".

There's the thread. If you take the time to read your issue has been addressed. The clients are dead for time being.

Got the same message on my 8703e.

hey joebogey,

i'm also on verizon and perhaps my experience can shed some light on what you are experiencing. when i first went to the wap site link (a week ago), i was able to download the MSN client and install it. however, after successful installation, i get a "service book" issue when i attempt to connect.

a few days after downloading the client, i tried to go to the same wap site to download again (in hopes that perhaps a new build would be available), but then received the same message you reported - something to the effect that my service provider does not support Windows Live Messenger.

my guess is that MSN and BB are working on a solution at the moment. whatever it is, i sure hope that the message isn't true, and that Verizon will support this MSN Messenger app.

hope this helps.

Thanks Jax this provides some light on the situation. I'll keep my fingers crossed for an update.

NDS has really made me keep quiet about this. All i can say is that the im clients will be carrier specific and created the software before all the carriers have created finalized agreements with msn,aol and icq

So..... in other words.....

we'll be waiting another two years before Rogers carries MSN?

I really really wish there was an alternative to rogers. First there is NO unlimited plan, where my colleagues in the states can add an unlimited data plan for 20-30 extra a month. Second, we don't even have MSN and, knowing rogers, it will be awhile before we can get it.

I can access www.blackberry.com/livemessenger from my device but when i click download it states that my carrier does not support this application (or something like that).

Do you think if we start a petition we can get rogers to A) get us unlimited data for a low cost and B) let us use msn/aim/icq or whatever IM software RIM releases?

Well since the messenger clients don't work for anyone, I think you'll just look like a boob. The clients that HAVE been released do work just fine.
Your unlimited cries will most likely fall on deaf ears.

....Like I said.... another three years and we MIGHT see the official msn on the blackberry.

Does anyone know where I can get a really good 3rd party MSN client fro my 8700 blackberry?

I highly doubt a perition will do anything.. A) Rogers has a 200mb/month plan, and no, it is not for a low cost and never will be. B) Rogers does not have any agreements with Microsoft and probably won't for a very long time.

I suspect that the reason that the IM clients aren't currently available has to do with licensing fees and other such legal issues. Petitioning them won't make this hurry up... but it may make you feel better

Apparently RIM has no interest in getting MSN Messenger officially on the blackberries... so does anyone have a LINK to a 3rd party one that works REALLY WELL ?

I'd really appreciate it... thanks!

Try JiveTalk and is one of the excellent IM software. It works for certainly almost all instant messages including AIM, MSN Messenger, GoogleTalk, Yahoo Messenger and etcs.

It's far more likely that Microsoft has no interest in not making buckets of money

Thanks a bunch, I downloaded it, I'll give it a shot.

Edit: When I go to start it (on my 8700) it says "Error starting JiveTalk $2dBlackBerry$2dpearl:Class 'net.rim.device.api.system.EventInjector$KeyCodeEv ent' not found

?

Something I'm missing?

Edit 2: Ugh, it's because I only have OS version 4.1.... when is Rogers going to release 4.2 for the 8700's? Geez.

Well, it works great. But I'd like the latest version, which would be nice. Any idea when Rogers Canada will support the 4.2 handheld software for the 8700's ?

Default Jive talk beta over!! - 05-29-2007, 11:35 PM

Jive talk is great but I am not sure I want to pay $30 bucks for it. The beta is over so it is time to pay the piper.

I downloaded BerryVine Messenger and it works great for me. It only costs $12.50.

BerryVine.com Details Page

It works with BlackBerry 87xx series and BlackBerry 7xxx series.

I forgot to say... it's for MSN Messenger.

hola friends,

wanted to give this thread a bump since i'm about to lay down some money on jivetalk. it's a great app, and i don't mind spending on it, but wanted to make a wise consumer decision by seeing if anybody in these forums have heard of any recent news on MSN providing a client for us.

if so, please let us all know.

much thanks,

I use IM+ (Software for PDA and mobiles: MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo!, AIM/iChat, ICQ, MySpace, Jabber, LCS, Sametime, Oracle, Reuters, Skype). Sure it cost, but it's a lifetime license, so I don't mine.
