Default MSN Messenger for BlackBerry? - 03-08-2005, 01:30 AM

Yes I know theres VeriChat, WebMessenger, etc however

Jim Balsillie, Chairman & Co-CEO of RIM states to be working with MSN and Hotmail, I wonder what that could mean? Maybe a Microsoft designed MSN Messenger BlackBerry?

From what I understand, there is soon to be a BB OS with built-in support for some messsenger services.

I like VeriChat... Hope the competition brings the price down... Or works as well.

Verichat is the best one out there now. It's kind of pricey but worth every strokes on the pad and more!

BBmessenger is a pin to pin app between blackberries only if you are looking for an aol aim related app use rambler, this is the link for bbmessenger:http://dangeros.is-a-geek.org/bbota/bbm.jad

and this is the link for ramble:http://wireless.sra.com/ramble/download.html

you can download both of these apps OTA. If you want more info you can do some searches here.

On Nextel you can already go into MSN Messenger. Just go to the nextel wireless web, select portals and MSN and then MSN Messenger.

stone that way sucks though it takes forever to refresh and sometimes kicks you out all those portal messenger suck. A third party app is the only way to go

I was under the impression (from RIM) that there were strained relations between RIM and Microsoft, thus this was put on hold, to an extent. There is the LCS/Windows Messenger for internal use coming out with BES 4.1, which I'm sure could easily be ported since they use some of the same basic protocols. I'm still curious if that client will support public IM cloud federation, if the LCS/OC server is federated. That'd be really nice.

If you attempted to load a JAR file directly, then it didn't load it via javaloader. You'll have to first convert it to a COD then load it.

You should be able to download it OTA from here:
http://www.funrungames.com/download/eMSN.jad

p.s - its hardly what i'd call 'instant' though... and it includes 'advertisements' while making connections to start a chat with someone (hence the comment about it being 'instant').

btw, when converting midlets, they don't retain the pretty little ribbon icon. if you download this over-the-air, it will create you an icon.

You should be able to download it from the JAD file link below. However, if you just want to host it on your own webserver for whatever reason, here you go.

Download JAD:
http://www.funrungames.com/download/eMSN.jad

Download JAR:
http://www.funrungames.com/download/eMSN.jar

COD:
You already have.

You'll need to configure the MIME types, as well.

1 - Configure proper MIME types on Web Server
I'll just put everything for COD (RIM Java), JAR (Java Archive), JAD (Loader file for COD and JAR) and ADP (ADPCM Ringtones) file types

For IIS:
- Open up Internet Services Manager (W2K) or Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (W2K3)
- Expand your virtual server
* Expand Web Sites (only for W2K3)
- Right-click on Default Web Site and click Properties
- Click on the HTTP Headers tab then click on the File (or MIME) Types button
- Click on New File Type and add the following:

Associated Extension: cod
Content Type (MIME): application/vnd.rim.cod

Associated Extension: jad
Content Type (MIME): text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor

Associated Extension: jar
Content Type (MIME): application/java-archive

For Apache (using .htaccess):
- Open up or create .htaccess file in the directory you will be serving from
- Add the following lines:

AddType application/vnd.rim.cod cod
AddType text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor jad
AddType application/java-archive jar

For cPanel or other type of Control Panel configs:
Add MIME type per configuration steps within the CP.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I already pay full whack for unlimited data, paying another $20 a month is not gonna happen. I just wish I'd done more research before I bought it..... I would've gone with Rogers.

Do these messangers auto load or stay connected at all times? Meaning no matter what you are doing with your phone, you can still receive an IM from any client, mainly if Verichat works like that!

Default emsn trouble - 12-08-2005, 10:24 PM

hi all,

trying to get emsn up and running on 8700 (what a fantastic machine)...but am experiencing a "login error: connection-problem write" response immediately upon trying to login.

I've seen this is a similar issue for many cellphone users out there as well, but was unable to turn up any troubleshooting that resolved the issue, either in the threads or on the provider's website.

Any suggestions...? Your assistance would be appreciated.

I use the blackberry messenger but not yahoo messenger. I haven't liked many off the instant message clients I've used thus far. IM+ was probably the best for me anyways but I really wish there was a msn messenger app for the blackberry similiar to the yahoo messenger that's available. I tried the emsn app that someone had posted above. It's okay but I don't like the delay between messages or the interface either.
