I was on a call recently with a rim rep. I work for a local carrier on the east coast don't want to go to specific cuz they said it was mildly confidential but the device will be the 8830. verizon's looking at may/june and sprint soon thereafter other carriers are looking at august. so far all the test devices have verizon software or atleast the ones we saw. the device will be trackball and will have a few new features some of which have been mentioned. it is quadband but will only be marketed as cdma in north america and gsm in europe and other markets. it will also have a micro sd card slot and has a full media player, music and video!!!!! it will have a built in spell checker 64 MB onbaord data and 16 MB ram. overall it looks pretty cool very similar to the 8800. best features imo are the next two: stereo bluetooth, and extended battery included when you buy. it has 33% more battery life than the standard in the 8703e so should be pretty good. thats pretty much all they told us on the call hope that answers questions and clears up some myths if you have any other questions i can research them and ask our rim rep and see what he says.
So does it come with two batteries or just the extended battery which would most likely make it thicker than the rest of the 88xx's...

Late May is what my rep is saying. I am getting the old "hang in there...it will be worth the wait" pep talk.

Just met with my Verizon rep today. Mid-2nd Qtr 2007 is the time frame for the Cyclone. Looks just like the pic below, but in silver.

Did you see it live? Same exact keyboard or did RIM make some slight changes?

Will the dimensions be the same as the CINGY model. I ask because I think the 8800 is a bit large compared with my 7250.

Thank you for the response Dewars.

With the possible arrival of the Verizon Pearl on May 7, I am not sure what this means to our 8800 discussion.

Everyone has different taste, but I have to admit hearing the above post saying it will be all silver kinda bumbs me out. I like the black & silver look better.
With that said, I will be more then happy to physically HAVE an all silver one as soon as possible

I got my hands on a Cingular 8800 last week. I was looking to upgrade to the 8703e, but I'm eligible to upgrade my device in August. I'd rather wait for the 8830 than go with the 8703 now.

The new track pad will take some getting used to as I'm so accustomed to the track wheel on the side. All in all, this looks like a great device, but too early to tell.

First off, all win mobile based Treos suck. Stick with the Palm based OS on the Treos. If for some reason you need Win Mobile, and I can't see why, then choose another brand.

When I was in my Business100 class last semester, we were shown that the top 3 cellular companies were:

1. Verizon
2. Sprint/Nextel
3. T-Mobile

I have had Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. I will stick with Verizon because it has the best coverage and reliability.

I'm new to VZW (2 months) after using T-Mobile, Cingular, Sprint and Nextel over the past 5 years. So far, Verizon wins HANDS DOWN! Best coverage (i outfitted my sales team nationwide with 8703's and BY FAR the best business customer service). I have a dedicated account rep and a inside BB technician available for any issues.

I can't wait for the 8800's! I'll ask my BB Tech tomorrow if he has any scoop.

I'm a noob here, but I i find it odd the everyone says vzw phones suck and they're the slowest on the block with new and cool phones.... but as it has been metioned so may times b4 their network is the best. Why have really cool phones if they dont work... I'd rather have a reliable network where i know my phone will work then a flashy new phone that works some times.

of course the network is critical when choosing a service provider, but it's not like the companies with the flashy new phones have horrible networks either. they just may not be as good.

i've been with sprint, att/cingular, and now verizon, and i must admit that i've been happiest with vzw. not so much b/c of the coverage, but also b/c sprint and att have always treated me like dirt.

however, my girlfriend is on Tmo and always glowing about their service and customer support. she and i travel in a similar daily circle, and her service is pretty much identical to mine here in los angeles. so for me, if coverage is the same, customer relations is the same, but one company gets the better phones first, it becomes a very compelling argument to jump ship.
