Venicom Tmobile

I ordered a tmobile 7100T from Venicom under the informationthat I could transfer a tmobile number. Any advise on the deal for a Free BB from Venicom working with Tmobile. They seem to have a good deal but rediculous rules and requrements? Anyone done this? How is it working?

Suds 04-02-2005 10:04 PM

Unfortunately I called to confirm the deal after receiving my 7100t from Venicom and reading the agreement letter sealing the carton. It stated that you can NOT tranfer an existing Tmobile number to the new 7100t without a substantial fee. I called the listed number and explained to the customer service rep that one of their salespeople had stated that I could tranfer my number. She apologized for the sales person's statement and said "he will be in significant trouble", and confirmed that I would not be able to transfer my existing TMo number. She offered to refund the $20 shipping charge on the purchase as well as pay for the return, if I did not want to use the new number. In the end, I ended up keeping the phone (and great deal) and sent an email to everyone that I want to have my cell number (and not to those who have my current # but I would rather didn't). So, if you are willing to change your number, the Venicom deal represents significant savings. If not, pass.

The same thng happened to me as you stae exactly and I have about a week more to decided and change my number . I had also been promised the number change and got the box with the notice not to open it if I was not going to use the new number yet they had said I did not have to change my number. Has the deal been good so far except for that LIE? Tmobile told me that this deal is for getting a new phone so there is no way one can keep an old number.

Suds 04-03-2005 10:24 PM

Patbb,
Sounds like you and I were both fed the same line (of bull) from the sales department at Venicom. However, I do like the phone, and the price was right, despite the hassle of a new number.

Cheers,
Suds

Well, I just needed to hear that you like it and they have not played you or anything. I asked for an apology before I could trust Venicom and they send me one today. SO I have evidence of that incase they do not keep thier end of the bargain. Thanks

I ordered the 7100 from them, and just called to reconfirm that I can keep my old number. I'm switching from nextel, so I should be okay, correct? And I have to say that in my experience with venicoms customer service, they are terrible. They are in a rush and can't seem to be bothered to answer simple questions. Just a mad dash to collect info from you. But, when I ordered, they did waive the $35 activation fee, so that's cool. I don't like how the website says $19.99 for 2 day shipping, when in reality it is 5 day and the $10 upgrade makes it 2 day instead of overnight. Kind of misleading, but as long as I get the phone and can keep my number I'll be happy.

UShopWireless / Venicom

I was able to port my number with no hassle. I called them up told them I was with Verizon and they ported my number to T-Mobile. It was a quick process. So far I purchased a few devices from them and eachtime was actually pretty smooth. I bought the 7100t over a year ago. I bought the GC89 data card a few months ago and we just got the BlackBerry 8700g which is a very cool device. The first time I called 1-877-373-7100 to order & the last two times I purchased online at UShopWireless.com. Very happy customer...

I too had no problems porting my number from Verizon to the 7100t I ordered from Venicom (free after rebate). Haven't tried to order a TMO phone from them while already on TMO, so cannot comment on that.

Overall I found Venicom to be very professional and would definitely do business with them again if they have the phone I'm looking for.

porting

I have ported my number a number of times from different dealers, stores, etc.. in the past 3 or 4 years. The general rule is if you go from one carrier to another it counts as a new line of service for the delaer so they r able to give you the special price. If you get it for the SAME carrier you have now, it needs to be a NEW number to qualify as a new line of service. The dealers get a set amount of money from the carriers to sign up new customers that is why they r able to pass on that saving to you. In the case of the same carrier they wont let you port an existing number because then it will not be an additional NEW line of service. simple reason...

arche3 is exactly right. I just called Venicom - they, and all the other resellers, only get paid by the carriers for signing up new customers (or existing customer with NEW phone number), so you cannot take advantage of the reseller discounts unless you are new to the carrier or are willing to take a new phone number.

So when I upgrade my phone at the end of my TMO contract period, I'm basically forced to go to TMO and get a mild discount on a new phone as opposed to going to Venicom and getting a huge discount on a new phone. Unless of course I'm willing to switch to another carrier, but I'd like to stay on GSM and there's no way I'd go to Cingular.

Venicom will not let you port any number or use any existing Sim Card in their device. Also, you better take careful look at the plan you purchase. Venicom offers a minutes plan for 39.99 and a BB add on for 19.99. This blackberry add on does not include any text messages. If you go through T-Mobile, you pay the same price (59.98) for unlimited data and text messages. Text messages through Venicom cost $15 if you wish to purchase unlimited. Basically, Venicom will cost you $15 more per month. If you have the AIM or previously loaded software and you like to use it, you better get text messages. They all use SMS.

The good news is that after 120 days (4 months) of venicom, you can switch your plan to any that tmobile offers.

Not true. You can port a number as long as it is from a different carrier than the one you are signing up with. They ported my Verizon number to my TMO phone with no problems.

jacobsaa 05-02-2006 02:29 PM

You are correct. I meant existing T-Mobile account. They will let you port different carriers.

apple85 05-02-2006 04:00 PM

Jacobsaa I went to tmobiles web site and did not see text messaging included with the 19.99 unlimited plan. I went thru Venicom and I've got the 19.99 and had to add 400 messages at 4.99 (Thinking of going to unlimited not quite sure). When I spoke to a tmobile CS rep she saw I had the 19.99 plan and said i would still need to ad regular text, so i called venicom and added it

I got the 8700g and transferred to TMobile. The Venicom deal was great but the rebates are spread out over 6 months. Not ideal... But, getting more minutes, unlimited email, and unlimited internet for $10 more than verizon. The t mobile folks are terrific.

I got ummm burned on this too. The sales person said I could talk to T-mobile after the activation to port my number and activate my enterprise email so I did and now... a year later my rebates have been cancelled and they are trying to charge me $449.00 for "changing my account" even though I was instructed to do so by the sales agent.

I logged a complaint with the Better Biz B and I'd recommend anyone else in this situation do the same!

Thanks
Ben

I may have just stepped into this trap. I ordered a phone yesterday and after rebates it was free.

Hoping to be able to switch my contract to a 1year and/or send the thing back.

Arg...hopefully it will work out...they told me basically that I just had to have service for 4 months with Venicom and then it would transfer over to t-mobile..not sure what that is about.

I will keep you all updated...the phone should arrive tomorrow.

I got a phone from venicom a few months ago. i was able to switch or port my number to the new phone. what they did was assign a new number to the new phone and when i recieved it, i called TMO to port my old number to the new phone. Here's the thing: you have to be on a TMO plan long enough so that you don't incur any charges. It's basically like upgrading a phone with TMO when your contract is up or renewing the contract. To get the rebates you would have to send in 4 seperate rebate forms to venicom. what this does is prove you stayed with a higher plan that they required you stay with for 4 months. THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE HAD WITH VENICOM IS THAT I'VE MET ALL THEIR REQUIREMENTS AND HAVE SENT IN THE FORM SHORTLY AFTER THE FOUR MONTHS WERE UP, WHICH WAS LIKE 4 MONTHS AGO. I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY OF MY REBATES. JUST BEWARE WHEN U BUY A PHONE OUTRIGHT, REBATES DON'T ALWAYS COME BACK. HOPEFULLY MINE WILL BE IN THE MAIL SOON...ALL $225 OF IT.

When you say you called TMO....you really called Venicom right?
If you called TMO within the first 4 months of having the phone...and they made changes or helped you with your account..then you probably are in breach of contract.

When you order with Venicom you have to call VENICOM DIRECTLY to make any changes or inquire about the services...calling T-Mobile for help or support or changes will kill any chance of getting a rebate back and may cause you to have incure FULL CHARGES of the value of your phone.

I actually recently bought a Pearl from Venicom and opened a new T-Mobile account with them. Dealing with these internet vendors, one holds one's breath. Actually, my experience, so far, with Venicom has been perfect. They are very conciencious. Most importantly, the devices they sell are new, with T-Mobile 1 year warranties. Evidently, some of these places pass off refurbished hardware as if its new and you only see this in very fine print. So confirm that you're getting a 1 yr. warranty and that the equipment is new. Yes, you are locked into making any changes to your T-Mo account through Venicom for 120 days. This didn't seem like too much of a problem to me. I'm about to buy two more phones from them and change to a family plan. Also, you have to ask questions of the sales guys cause they won't give you every detail. The customer service people are left to give you the whole run down of how they work. The sales people will rush you a bit finalize the deal. Otherwise I have to say I'm very pleased.
