Default 8820 news - 03-28-2007, 06:37 PM

Sorry if I posted in the wrong thread. I am very new here (new as in: this is my first message). Anyways, I've seen some misleading information about the 8820 so I thought I'd clear some things up:

1) I work for T-Mobile

2) I just recently met the CEO, Robert Dotson

3)He is currently testing the 8820

4)It has a camera and wi-fi

5)It will be out this summer.

6)It will be released along with T-Mobile@Home service.

7)They are still deciding on the color (they are leaning towards black)

8)It is closer to the size of the 8700 then it is to the 8800

Too bad, Cingular will probably have the 8300 out by the time Tmo has the 8820 out

the VoIP will be through T-Mobile@Home service. Whether or not it will use other services like Skype remains to be seen. This could be in fact the 8300. Looking at a picture the 8300 is the one Mr. Dotson was carrying. But when I inquired about it I was told it was the 8820. All these numbers are confusing, lol. T-Mobile will have the 8800 before the 8820, but only available for B2B initially.

you are wrong tmobile is not getting that blackberry. I work for tmobile and we had bb training in our region yesterday and the RIM rep had said that tmobile is going to get the 8900 early summer possible sooner if tmobile gets on the ball. No new blackberry is coming for a few months, if there was we would have had training on it already

I'm not going to get into a posting war with you, but I have info to back my claims up (along with a picture of myself with Mr. Dotson in Atlanta if you like to see it). All the hi execs were there and between Bonita Inza and Mr. Dotson they said Q2. Thank you. Besides, why would Robert test a phone thats not coming out til next year? And if I remember correctly Sousa was carrying the 8800.

Hey, thanks for the info...

Three questions:

Do you have an idea (even if speculative) as to when the 8800 will be released to B2B? Is there any way that non-B2B people can get it? And,

Is TMobile@Home service being rolled out to more areas? I remember reading that it was being tested in certain areas and was wondering when it may be rolled out nationwide if not to more major markets....Thanks in advance and welcome aboard!

Precisely!

I agree with you 100%, in addition I also have information from within the T-Mobile organization that back up your posts here exactly.

Thanks again for your contribution to the Forum

My brother's uncle's cousin cleans the local T-Mobile store....ok, so it's not a corporate store but an authorized reseller. Anyhow, one day he looked into the trash and thinks he saw a memo on an 88 something or other...he's pretty sure it was a Blackberry. He say's it's probably going to be black in color.

I didn't get a release date for the 8800 (I was too busy drooling over the "other" berry). My guess is that they dont want to flood our customer base with one version just to release another soon after that. I'm sure it will only be a temporary restriction since everyone doesn't want a camera. T-Mobile@home is being launched in Atlanta June 15. I cant remember if thats the nationwide date or not, but I'm about 70% sure it is for most major markets.

I dont blame some of you for doubting the info that I'm presenting. But, unlike "other" employees I held the phone in my hand along with other employees to check it out. Mr. Dotson was in Atlanta to visit our market as well as ask our frontline retail employees what T-Mobile can do to improve its overall service to customers. I never known a CEO to ask entry-level employees on their input.

And for those "other" emplyees who doubt what I say...just email Mr. Dotson and ask him...you know his address, right?

If any of you are T-Mobile customers it will be an exciting 6-12 months coming up.

Thats why I question your source. Granted, it is a RIM rep as you say, but one exec was carrying the 8800 and Robert was carrying what everyone else referred to as the 8820. If, in fact we have the 8900 then shouldn't it be in streamline? Last time I checked it wasn't. I'll look again. If somehow I'm wrong I'll man-up and admit it.

I have heard rumors of a 8900 but never seen any evidence of that model. Both the 8300 and 8820 are listed in the OS for the 8800 and I've seen pictures of the 8320. Where is this 8900??

Bigsmooth66,

WELCOME to BB FORUMS.

Am trying to sort these BB model numbers. You say you were looking at a picture of the BB 8300 which was the one Mr. Dotson was carrying but you were told it was the BB 8820.

How many models is RIM going to launch this year?? We will have to start using a score card!!! Some will say that all these models are so that we will be able to choose the one we want in order to match our requirements.

Would anyone care to comment? Thanks.

CarBob

Really? Are you sure it isn't the 8320? AFAIK none of the 88XX's will have cameras but all of the 83XX's will.

my wife better not see your post or she'll enlist me.
i think they made some mistake, and probably even if this was some bigwig talking, they got confused about model numbers. the 8820 all indications are that it's identical to the 8800 but has wifi. in fact, the 8800 was supposed to be the 8820 but the wifi wasn't working correctly. the 8800 is a more business oriented device, sleek and serious looking, and will not have a camera in it as many businesses don't want one. period. the 8300 series is the more consumer related model. although i'm sure there will be crossover between the two.
8900, 9000 etc. those are likely still on the drawing board.

As my information goes and I've seen/played with the models myself, The 8820 is going to have the WiFi added but no camera still (and the 88XX models never will). The BB with the camera that you are talking about would be the 8300. Just trying to help clear it up, not having a dig at all.

As for the 8320 I havent seen anything about this model, can someone tell me if this is just a model number mixup thats not going away or a future device thats still on the drawing board?

Bigsmooth66 -- did the model you laid your eyes on have the keyboard similar to the 8800 (squished up keys all placed next to each other, no spacing between) or a more generous keyboard with space between the keys, ala the 8700 (or 8320 that BGR has)?

If T-Mobile gets the next BB with camera and GPS built in (RIM 88XX) then Rogers customers up here in Canada should be able to purchase it late this year, possibly around October. It would be good timing as I'm eligible for reduced pricing on Rogers hardware upgrade program in October

Wow, then I guess Boy Genius is absolutely incorrect and you, the high and mighty T-Mobile rep knows all.

Sorry pal, I'll take someone with the reputation as Boy Genius who actually gets the devices and provides worthwhile inside information over a little rep like yourself who spoke with a RIM rep.

BTW Merrill Lynch also correctly anticipated the past BB releases so save that argument as well.
-------
BlackBerry 8300 to T-Mobile & Verizon/Sprint BlackBerry Pearl to Launch May 7th? : The Boy Genius Report

According to Merrill Lynch, the BlackBerry 8300 is heading to T-Mobile in May & the BlackBerry Pearl for Verizon/Sprint will launch also launch May 7th. Supposedly. The "firm looks for two positive catalysts near term: 1) RIM's FQ earnings call on 11-April; and 2) Potential launch of Verizon/Sprint Pearl and T-Mobile 83xx WiFi Blackberry on 7-May, coinciding with RIM's Capital Markets Day. MLCO recommends buying May US$140.00 call options ahead of the upcoming catalysts". Sure this is only speculation, but never ever dismiss good ol' Merrill. It does coincide with the approximate rumored launch timeframe for the BlackBerry 8300, but T-Mobile? I guess Pink is hotter than Blue nowadays.
