Default Verizon / Alltel - when will they finally merge? - 08-29-2007, 05:31 PM

When I read all the comparisons here of other carries to Alltel, I have to chuckle. Alltel owns the most physical cellular towers in the US, and leases service to Sprint and Verizon in rural areas. They may not have the biggest indivdual subscriber base, but they do have the largest physical network in the US. Verizon is actually Alltel's #1 "customer". You'd think Verizon would just get it over with and cough up the 30 Billion clams to buy Alltel, except they keep telling analysts they can buld their own physical network for less money. Yet they keep on leasing Alltel's spectrum, towers and CDMA service. Maybe if Sprint makes some noise towards an Alltel buyout, Verizon will get off their butts.

Funny thing is, Verizon is almost as bad as Alltel when it comes to rolling out new devices. So don't look for that to change any time soon.
