next big thing would be video conferrencing on 3G networks.
So far Nokia is trying very hard to make of their hardware suited for this tech but in US carriers are not in mood to upgrade the network.

Think of RIM like a car company. You can expect midlife cycle facelifts along the way, but dont expect drastict redesigns for another year or two. Yes, the new pearl is on the way, but I highly doubt it'll be a completely new phone. Just a refresh.

I think the next big thing would be the released of the IPhone. I'm sure it won't affect the blackberry market but I know Nokia, Samsung and Motorola is watching closely.

OMG I am so sick og hearing about the idiot phone its nothing more than a slick looking piece of crap. From the reviews I have seen already none of the people have cared for it because of the keyboard.

One thing I am not, is an Apple fan. But it is a fact that there brand is popular because of the ease to which a "non tech" person can use their stuff. For this reason alone, I say don't discount the iphone. But for me, I will stay with my Palm T/X and my new 8703e.

pda without a keypad is just dumb... how fast can you possibly type without a keypad... no thanks... and back to the topic at hand.. i hope the next one is 3G and the keyboard layout is friendlier like the 72xx series and i hope they get all the bugs worked out in the OS... for me 4.2 was too slow and im not looking to upgrade till they fix their issues... the 8800 had too much lag for me...

Absolutely wrong. Apple will sell 10,000,000 of these worldwide in 2008. There are only 9,000,000 blackberry subscribers and they've had a 10 year head start.

Watch out children. This device is going to up the ante for everyone- NOKIA, MOTOROLA, SONYERIC AND RIM.

I hear ya jet. I didn't like the 88xx series neither. Too cheap looking/feeling.

BTW, people were *****ing about the thumb-QWERTY keyboard before it was widely adopted as well.

Something to consider.

I agree- that covers about 100,000 people.

Tack on another 9.9 million who are eager for a MASSIVE overhaul to wireless software and just plain love the new technology.
