Thats true, forgot about Canada. In these circumstances it would replace the cellular data needs. I wonder if Canada will be the last to get the wifi berry then, that would be interesting. I guess my thoughts were mainly about any benefits to browsing but for those with limited data plans this could be good news.

Really. I have no reason to doubt what my AT&T rep is telling me under NDA. They've been straight up with me for the last 5 years, you think he wants to PO a customer who has 6000 some BB's and is adding 150 a month?
I agree with your statements. Sometimes it's hard to show 'proof' of something. Being in a similar situation as you, there's a lot more I could divulge but don't. Anyhow, I believe you, FWIW.

only because you are the man Jibi, only place i usually disagree with you is on the gridiron.

And I never said I didnt believe him I just said with out any creditable proof its just a rumor, until it either materializes or documentaion is laid out.

I'm definitely hoping we'll see a wifi bb in Canada. 75% of my data usage is in my house (push email overnight to monitor my web hosting business) and right now I'm paying $60 / mo for 30 MB.

I don't think it'll happen. I read somewhere that Rogers doesn't even wanna carry 8820. Prolly cuz of wifi. So, in past weeks rogers have denied two phones: iphone and 8820.

I am thinking same would happen to 8320 (if it gets released)

I think you are right. We don't have enough carriers for one of them to pick it up...if one did then others would probably follow suit to compete. Rogers has terrible network coverage in my area so it would be Bell/Telus, and I don't even know if a wifi CDMA phone is in the works, let along Bell/Telus considering carrying it.

I don't blame dawg, he doesn't know me from Adam. Still, anyone want to bet against AT&T releasing a UMTS device that'll work in Japan and S Korea in 4Q07?

The point is that the 8899 is a rumor unsubstantiated by any kind of source.

Thank you for the clairification.

Becasuse if this type of Blackberry were to exist, I would be very interested
in purchasing it.

Due to the fact that my contract will expire in Nov.

Thanks....

When you say UMTS, is that referring to HSDPA or are they only looking at a UMTS device like the Nokia N75?

Thanks for the info.

Mark - I know this is a rumor, so I do not know how much you have heard, but are they gearing the first device towards business users, ie. 8800 series, or media centric, 8300. I am a BES user, but because I don't have restrictions at work, I like to have a camera and a little more fun on the phone. And of course, most importantly, a BB that can tether at usable speeds. Thanks for all your input.

Man, I would kill for a new UMTS blackberry that would work in Korea. I'm in Korea now..and my 8800 is basically a brick. A glorified black book with all my contacts - nothing else works. I would have to say i'm 50% as productive here than when in the states.

I have seen one 8707 around - was shocked to see someone using one. He is using it on roam from a singapore carrier...I think. How does that exactly work with data service etc?

It comes down to which radio standard you're on - CDMA or GSM... and then which frequencies they're implemented on (dual band, tri band, quad band) in each country. Your phone has to handle the local combination.

I'm surprised your 8800 doesn't work. It's either too US carrier specific or you haven't activated international service with your carrier.
