Default New BlackBerrys this Summer - Confirmed - 07-03-2007, 10:22 PM

After reading Balsillie's comments on BBCool from his recent conference call, I couldn't help getting very excited.

Quote:
The summer is when we go double-speed while everyone else is resting. You’re gonna see some very unexpected surprises from us. A lot of stuff for media, consumers and devices. I won’t tip our hat, but a couple that people don’t see coming.
I know RIM knows how to make productive, functional devices that work. Everything you need to do can be done. But they are somewhat lagging in terms of UI and "fit and finish" if you will. Of course that's where Apple shines, but I need function over form and never once considered sacrificing that.

So it looks like RIM will finally get out of the gates devices that will satisfy us "serious" users while adding some more media centric features. I don't want a "dumbed down" version of a smartphone and it's nice to know the company I have stuck with for the past 5+ years realizes that. The next three months are going to be very exciting for us BB users.

Can you feel it?

I know the Pearl 2 (Komet) sounds interesting. 3.2MP camera, external microSD slot, streaming media and Bluetooth Stereo support, WiFi, etc! Bring 'em on!

BlackBerry 8310 - Curve+GPS (rumored AT&T)
BlackBerry 8320 - Curve+WiFi (confirmed T-Mobile)
BlackBerry 8330 - Curve+GSM/CDMA (rumored Verizon)
BlackBerry 8110 - Pearl 2 (rumored AT&T; possibly includes GPS)
BlackBerry 8120 - Pearl 2+WiFi (rumored T-Mobile)
BlackBerry 8130 - Pearl 2+GSM/CDMA (rumored Verizon)
BlackBerry 8820 - 8800+WiFi+GPS (rumored T-Mobile; doubtful release)

That should be about it. If there's something else in the pipeline, then I have absolutely no clue about it. We should see all of these before the end of the year, although that's just my own opinion that should be taken with a grain of salt and a dash of sand.

Yeah boy! I am glad I stuck with T-Mobile. Looks like this will be an interesting second half of the year.

If Sprint actually releases this before Verizon, I'd be VERY surprised. VZW has yet to concede any smartphone exclusive to Sprint first, so I don't expect their first consumer BlackBerry device in 2 years to be any different. From a financial standpoint, the 8130 is going to be a HUGE windfall for them (whichever it may be).

Default Estimate of when will the 8330 VZW come out? - 07-05-2007, 04:59 PM

It'd like to get an idea. I have the 8830 and would like a camera and a smaller phone. The 8830 is nice but just too big. Thanks!

why can't AT&T get one with WiFi enabled since no 3G BB's exist here in the states.

The 8830 is 3G on VZW and Sprint in the US; one of the 8700s too .
The curve is not 3G.

Wirelessly posted (8100: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Ill take the back seat on this...if RIM goes with the flo...their future devices will have multi-touch technology and a full compliment of features to take advantage of evolving mobile technologies like AJAX and all that other good stuff.

Too bad. Not much reason to wait for it then when the 8830 is available. Could care less about the camera and there is no way I'm dealing with EDGE when a comparable device is available on EVDO. WiFi would be cool, but it wouldn't be the primary network used.
