8800 not being pulled/dropped. TMo recently ordered huge shipment, per my sales rep. Were supposed to take delivery to their warehouse early this week. Apparently, they seriously considered dropping it, may have actually decided to and then cooler heads prevailed and they decided to continue selling it.

It may be the first of the newer models to get yanked, but not in the immediate future.

I dont like the curve. the only thing i hear people saying they like about it is the camera. The 8820 would be what i would want, but if tmo cant give me what i want it will be time to go. I mean they just keep dropping kiddie phone after kiddie phone, and once they get a good phone drop it and leave the bs.

What the heck - the styling on the curve is insanely sweet, and the keyboard reminds me of the 8700. Not so with the 8800. It feels mushy to me and I find the keyboard to be the single most important part about the phone given that you send droves and droves of e-mails and SMSes with it.

I just bought my 8300 from AT&T and unlocked it. If T-Mobile comes out with their version of it before my 30-day return policy comes up, I'll re-buy the T-Mobile version in a split second. Heck, I can probably still sell my AT&T Curve for good money and maybe add a few more $20s to get the T-Mobile model. I don't plan to leave T-Mobile anytime soon.

Just curious in regards to those people in here who discussed the "alleged" pulling or discontinuing of the 8800 as a sign or indication, for example, that T-Mo will be selling T-Mo USA [which I have never heard about]:

I don't see model changes as a sign of anything except confirmation that carriers like to come out with phones about every year or so, on a model. E.g., How long was the 8800 out? Seems to me long enough that a new model was due.

Another example, the Pearl came out in September 2006, and in June-July 2007 the Pearl 2 has been discussed and heavily confirmed to be coming out in September 2007. So six months into the Pearl talks of a replacement started and in fact a new model will debut one year after the original came out.

I understood the Pearl was a success. But going by what some members say, it was not since talk of its replacement started arising so soon after its debut and it will in fact be replaced one year later.

So I dunno, alarmists who say the 8800 being replaced indicates T-Mo is selling T-Mo USA or that this indicates the 8800 was a faulty phone, well, I just don't see these points as valid.

Like I said, seems to me most carriers change phone models every year or so. If this is accurate [I have not researched this point to back up my assumption] then model changes indicate nothing other than T-Mo is doing what all the carriers do.

Hey, Frisco [sic]. I agree that neither of those points makes sense. Surely, pulling a model has very little correlation with a business unit sale. Faulty device? Meh. Maybe there were a few OS kinks to work out, but not a reason for discontinuing.

Rehash: T-Mo has not actually pulled the 8800. It was simply removed from the list of available upgrade phones (discount w/o contract renewal for those with nearly expired or expired contracts).

This all started with a BGR or BBCool rumor that was inaccurate.

Tmo will be releasing a new model of the 8700g prob later this month it will be the 8705g.

How do you know that?

Any idea what the difference would be between the 8700 and 8705?

There is no relationship or significance to model changes to T-Mo's overall business intentions.

Another example, I just signed up for T-Mo's @home service, that is just being rolled out by T-Mo.

They had a Nokia phone offered a month ago, to be used with @home. When I ordered the service last week, the Nokia was no longer offered by T-Mo.

Signs of T-Mo's demise or intentions to abandon the @home service? I don't think so.

8705g has better hearing aid support. It will not be a mass marketed model. It is specialized and will probably be available to order for hard of hearing customers.

When I signed up for @home, just to secure the $9.99 pricing, all they had was the ugly Samsung, so I did not buy a phone. It was that ugly.

I am waiting for the Pearl 2 or I may go on eBay and buy the Nokia.

I am sure you will be able to find the 6086 somewhere. It is still available.

So with the Curve coming to T-Mobile (supposedly in September), is there even an option for a BB with GPS? I'm not all that interested in WiFi and a camera.

I tried 3 different departments at T-Mobile yesterday, no one would sell me the 8800. It's "permanently off the upgrade list", meaning you can't buy it without a new contract unless you go to a store (and there are none in my area). They have no information on any new BB's coming out and they don't even offer a reasonable alternative, they offered the Wing or the Dash:(

What to do? Go elsewhere for GPS or hope T-Mobile stops being retarded?

Hey I have a tmo 8800 igo throgh indirect dealers to get my goodies right now tmos trying to clea there perl stock for when the 8120 hits. It's already been a year. Plus dealer an corperate csrs don get as much comission on bb's as they do on sidekicks

Ok, People. 1. The Nokia 6086 is avaible at the retail locations, As well as the Samsung t409. As far as the difference Well the sound quaility, the Nokia although sd support and quad band has consumers saying it sounds "Tinny". The samsung has a Megpixal camera and a much better screen. When ever new phones are out they run out of stock. Sometimes inital orders estimates are not enough, even with lower end phones like the t219. And yes all phone models have life cycles like the pearl 1. And yes they get replaced like the pearl 2 and curve for Tmo. The 8800, may have less life spand in the retail locations because of its lack of more Consumer friendly applications like the Camera and @home services, the 8800 in all likelyhood will still be available for that target market Corp and Buisness consumers who order them from the net or their buisness account rep.
