Why the T-Mo 8800 was pulled -
07-23-2007, 06:46 PM
So, T-Mo has pulled the 8800 from the shelves. Heard this from BGR or BBCool, confirmed with a CSR by phone. WHY?
TMO claims it was a backordering issue. That sounds weak to me. Jibi had some inside info on an 83x0 or 88x0 dropping some time this year. They're clearing the stock to get ready for the new device? That makes more sense than the ATT 8820 announcement since they're still selling the old model. Silly timing if they're not ready to release.
I don't think there were enough TMo 8800 technical issues to pull the line - though it was overpriced at $350 compared to VZW and ATT.
What gives?

Once again, TMO is very behind on everything. If this true, they really need to get their game straight and pull out the 8800 from their website. As of now, the 8800 is still considered avail via their site. I am trying to be patient but TMO is really falling apart on customer communication!

I agree. They have a pretty weak selection of phones, too. It seems like AT&T gets all the new BlackBerries first. I don't mind waiting a little longer as kinks can get worked out but I mean dang!

i'll sit back in the tmo isle and eat popcorn while i watch the 2 slug it out....

well i have my 8800 i aslo identified a bad shipment at the QDI warehouse. that had to get pulled. but w aweek ago ig got my 8800 from a buddy of min whis a GM for an indirect dealer. I already have the phone unlocked. the pull is possablec aus of the 8320
the 8820 should be out for tmo lat august or early sept. sept also makes the date of the 8120as well. also tmo is curently beta testing UMTS and hsdpa on their net. I got this info while talking to a corprate store manager getting rates for enterprise plans as my company will probably switch carriers in OCT.
I can wait.

We've been getting 4-5 of them each time and already received 10 in total. I didn't know they're already dropping this model...it'll just be another reason for those sr execs to ask for new phones. Which won't be bad then I can upgrade my 8700 to their 8800.
I jus saw an article in ComputerWorld yesterday about the new 8820.

It is my understanding from my NAR that the 8320 will be released in late September early October. As for as the 8820, if Cingular has an exclusive the earliest the BB will be on TMO is November.

I love tmo service and thier reps, but they are getting there BUTS kicked and have done so for a while now and it seems they are doing nothing about it. While at&t is coming out with a new device every month tmo comes out with crap. I wonder if the old rumor is true and they might be selling tmo USA.

Hmmm the 8800 is still on the website? Doesn't look like they pulled it off the shelves to me.
And I would too agree, T-Mobile is kinda on a downhill. Well not really but in terms latest phones. It might be different if I wasn't a blackberry user, but when I take a look at their regular phones, they all seem lacking compared to everything else. What gives? At this point, it seems like are their super local customers are the one staying and their not really doing much to attrach new customers. But thats what I love about them, they take care of their existing customers.
But I was disappointed the other day when my easy pay payment (automatic monthly bill payment) didn't go through. I had to call in and ask what was wrong and they told me I should make a "manual" payment. So I said sure, here's my credit car, and the rep informed me that its a $5 fee to have a rep process your payment. I was like WTF?!? When did this happen. And she told me to just use the automated system, it won't cost anything.
I was really bugged by this even though it doesn't really effect me anymore, but before had had easy pay set up, I used to call in and hit 0 until I got a rep to pay my bills, I couldn't stand automated systems.

Honestly, if they discontinued the 8800 and in two weeks brought out the 8820, I think there would be a lot of pissed off 8800 customers. Considering how much more money T-Mobile's 8800 is compared to AT&T's, then for them to drop it all together leaving us 8800 upgraders (most of who signed a 2year contract) in the dust is really shitty.

Yeah, it's strange. The web site has it and some local stores have it. By phone, however, it's not in the sale database.
Ian, so you expect models to be updated infrequently? Everything gets dated, man.

Didn't anyone realized that since T-mobile pulled the 8800 off the stores, that means we will see the 8300 and a newer 8800 soon!
I can't wait! I will get the 8300 as soon as it comes out!

I checked with my local T-Mobile stores, and they still have the 8800's... I asked when they would be updating their Blackberries, and no one had heard anything about the new TMO Curve or 8820. I truly hope that the rumors above are true, and TMO rolls out at least the 8820 soon!

I've been hearing the same thing too. T-Mobile probably will not see the 8820 until September or October from what I've been hearing from T-Mobile store reps. The stores in my area still have plenty of stock, and continue to deny any information regarding an August release.

This whole thing started with a rumor at BBcool. T-Mobile pulling BlackBerry 8800 off shelves to make room for Wi-Fi model? | BlackBerry Cool
The stores and web sites still have the models. Only with a phone CSR did I hear that the 8800 wasn't available.
I say move this rumor to NOT TRUE file.

T-Mobile will be rolling out the 8320 within the next 2 mths possibly - I say possibly give or take network VoIP delay's or hiccups. With the new WiFi enabled devices they will require specific routers that help with power consumption. They'll work with Just about ANY router but specific ones are better at power consumption.
8320 - I didn't think I'd like the design of the 8300 but since it'll have WiFi plus the 2MP camera I'd definately go for that. Unless the 8820 is cheaper on important unlocked. I love the styling of the 8800 series plus the hot swap card.
Training for Tmobile reps already began for the 8320.
Looking for that perfect signature, hmm.

The T-Mobile display in Fry's (S of Houston) had NO 8700s and won't be getting any more "because we're going to be receiving new BBs," CSR said. She's to be told late next week which BB it is and when it's due to arrive, and she "thinks" it's a WiFi. She said a friend who works at a T-Mobile kiosk is without 8700s, too, and has been told the same thing.

Well, it makes more sense to pull the 8700 than the 8800 - assuming the rumored device to come is a Curve.

This question is answered in the other thread you were waiting for me to update today.

Thanks, HalfLife.
A clarification based on a discussion with a T-Mo phone CSR. The 8800 is not pulled from sales, just pulled from the upgrade choices (for those with existing service and expired contract).

Ordered an 8800 19July07 from T-Mobile, received it four days later. They haven't pulled it yet.
A Business Care rep stated in early July that they would be dropping the 8800 in lieu of the new curve, which is slated to come out early September.
I DID, however get an email from my rep stating, "FYI….The Dash is on sell through which means it’s going to be out of our inventory soon. If you have any interested people I would order asap." My rep also confirmed that early September is the scheduled rollout of the T-Mo curve.

Hey, Grendahl. Thanks for sharing.
Can you get any info from your rep as to which Curve? It seems now there's one with WiFi (france, ATT), and one with GPS (Germany).
