8130 (Pearl 2) coming to Verizon in November -
08-15-2007, 01:01 PM
[Per Crackberry.com] Yet more BlackBerry news this week from the Boy Genius - the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, which has commonly been referred to in the past month of rumors as the Pearl 2, will be coming to Verizon in November 2007. That's right Verizon customers, the Pearl 2 exists, and you will be getting a sweet CDMA BlackBerry before the rest of the GSM-using world (although this isn't "official" and a GSM Pearl 2 still has plenty of time to hit the market sooner).
The device looks good though - 2 mega pixel camera with flash, 1xEvDO, stereo bluetooth, and a 3.5mm headset jack. That's all the details for now. More specs are sure to emerge in the weeks ahead.

We at VZW salute you! From no Pearl to Pearl 1.5. I am very happy.

Yeah, definitely Pearl 1.5 ...I'm still kind of curious why some of the features in the GSM Pearl 2 didn't make it into this one... If this doesn't have a 3.2MP camera and side-loading microSD card, then one could be curious why this wasn't released 6-9 months ago.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

Let's see...Alltel is only two months behind on the 8830. Hopefully they can get this one before too long also; I'm not counting on it though. But, it may not be too far fetched as my business rep had a hard time getting hold of a 7130 for me. I have several users that haven't switched to because they need/want the camera so it would be great.

Out of the box will it do HTML email? Or is it too soon to know?

Im a little confused about the differences between US carrier models.
Im in the UK, does anyone know if/when a Pearl 2 will be released here on any Uk carrier? Sorry if this has been dealt with before.

Sure I'll bite. Just what I wanted to do, argue about wireless rates on the internet.
I tried to make the Verizon plan as close to my Sprint plan as possible, I have a Blackberry and my wife has a generic clamshell. These are the services I care about btw, for instance I don't text.
Verizon
$70 - 700 Anytime Minutes 2 lines night hours 9pm to 6am
$35 - Blackberry Data Plan
$15 - PAM
$120 - Total
Sprint - My Plan
$70 - 800 Anytime Minutes 2 lines night hours 7pm to 7am
$40 - Blackberry Data Plan includes PAM
$110 - Total
Now these are before company discounts and other negotiable discounts.
You start tacking on GPS to an already inferior plan and things get sticky.

If people want to talk prices, then I am curious to hear what people think VZW will ask for this BB. My guess $350 pre rebate/new contract

Unless this and a VZ-curve are CDMA-GSM capable I'll be going to AT&T when my contract is up.

Does anyone have any idea how much this will cost with a new plan? I used to have verizon and then I switched to tmo for the pearl and now that verizon is getting it, I want to come back because everyone keeps yelling at me saying I'm making their bill high (practically everyone I know is on verizon). So right now I am in the process of tryin to find someone to take over my plan so if anyone wants to switch to tmo...please come talk to me. I have about 22 months left, a white pearl and I pay about 90.96 a month for my faves 600 mins, unlimited data, unlimited texting to anyone, and equipment protection.

I don't think Verizon has released the pricing for the device yet, but your data plan will probably go up. Tmobile has the cheapest BB plan around.

Absolutely. I've been a fan of the suretype since I used it on my 7130e. The form factor (not to mention camera, bluetooth stereo, etc..) will make this a winner for me. I've had more issues with converting FROM suretype back to full QWERTY than I ever did from QWERTY to suretype.
The plain truth is: I like my 8830, but I'm definitely going to make the switch to the Pearl 2.

how come no one speaks about the Pearl 2 being capable of having video recording? i've played with the pearl 2 and you can record up to 2 gigs of video...the device is a little heavier than the GSM counterpart, but not by much. There is a microSD slot on the side. Verizon Blackberry users will love this device

I agree with you - the Pearl 2 does sound like a great BB... but I'm still planning to stick with the 8830 the more I read.
The camera would be nice, and the 3.5mm headphone jack was a big draw for me. However, it looks like they have now upgraded the 8830 to Bluetooth A2DP with the latest release, so that's less 'important'. With the full keyboard and GSM support, the 8830 is still the winner to my personal criteria. The fact that I've just learned I can "upgrade" it to the 8800 black keyboard for $6.00 from that heinous unreadable silver/blue 8830 keyboard is gravy too (from a thread in the 8800 forum).
8130 does look like a fantastic device for those that prefer the slim formfactor and suretype though.
