Default Trying to put new BB in the budget... GPS + Camera?

Please Login to Remove!

When will Tmobile be releasing a blackberry with GPS and a camera. Does anyone know? Are there any rumored dates or approx months? I'm looking to budget this in at work, as we had some phones break, and I'd like to wait, hand mine down, and get upgraded.

Thanks.

The GPS version of the pearl is going to the CDMA networks, and Tmob is getting the wi-fi Curve. So I wouldn't get your hopes up for a GPS blackberry on t-mobile anywhere in the near future.

They did release a GPS version of the curve in Europe, so if thats what you want you will have to buy it from one of their suppliers and then unlock it for Tmobile.

The 8310 should be released in the matter of a month or two in the United States, assuming a carrier decides to pick it up. You could always import an unlocked version from Europe, though.

If you import as Jibi suggests (a good idea if you want the latest device asap) make sure the version you get has a QWERTY keyboard not a QWERTZ keyboard. Trust me, having typed on the different keyboard in foreign countries, it wouldn't be fun.

So an imported version will have GPS that works? I thought you had to pay a monthly fee on top of the data fee for GPS?

You have several options for GPS:

BBmaps: free
berry411: free
Googlemaps: free
Telenav (spoken directions): $10/month

etc

Those are all map programs, but do not provide pinpoint GPS, correct?

they are as accurate as the GPS i think, the phone shows lat & long., number of satellites and accuracy (.81m for mine).

their are many map programs and check the GPS section for tracking programs that show your history, elevation, speed, ect.

Well my point is that none of them use actual GPS. They are all map programs which you can type in point a and point b. But none of them you just turn on and it says "you are here", and your destination is "here", giving you directions.

edit: Basically what I want is an 8800 with a camera. Is this going to happen anytime this year?

my understanding is the 8800 line will be business apps only, so sorry no cam, go for the 8300 series(curve) that will have a cam/gps or a cam/wi fi choice

Yes they do. Open google maps on a GPS enabled blackberry and hit 0. A glowing dot will appear on the map at your location. Telenav has a similar function in its options.

If you want to do directions, they will using GPS to find your starting point and to show your position during your journey.

The 8800 series will not have a camera. What you want is the 8310 or the CDMA version of the pearl 2, both have a camera and GPS.

So I can get an 8310 for Tmobile right now that will have GPS and a camera, show me my current location anywhere I am without having to manually type in an address? This is what I want!!!

Personally I have switched from Google Maps to Windows Live Search. See my GPS tips page.
