Default Blackberry/Verizon Curve Response - 08-31-2007, 03:35 PM

Hi guys, I am interested in switching from Sprint to Verizon. I am just waiting for the curve to appear on Verizons list. Reading the rumors on this site made me want an official answer though, so I contacted Balckberry and Verizon and asked them seperately. Rather than cut and paste the entire dialog, I will summarize each others respnses. Both were received by me less than 3 days ago.

Verizon - We will not be carrying the Curve, but please look at our other great PDA's!

Blackberry - We don't disclose what new products are coming out for who, thank you for your interest.

I really don't want to go to AT&T, but damn if that Curve isn't reason enough to change!

Vendors will not divulge upcoming release information even if they know (and it sounds like the Verizon representative definitely does not). Expect the World Edition Curve in Q4 2007 or Q1 2008.

I just don't know why they don't say, "We have no plans as of now of offering it." Not "We WILL NOT be offering the phone."

I think I am going to continuously send emails until I get the answer I want. Thanks a lot for the reply. I can't wait to get rid of this brick I have in my pocket now. (TREO 650) For the huge size, it doesn't really offer that much. Although I love the touch screen.

VZW wants to sell you the BB they are offering right now, not convince you to hold out and wait for the next best thing.

There will probably be a Curve on verizon, but there is no firm date yet. It is almost certinly more then 3 months away though. Why not just get the best deal you can on a BB through verizon now and sell it to upgrade to the curve when it is available?

You won't get a VZW or RIMM Employee to tell you anything "officially".

Your best hope is to make friends with a business account rep. I manage my employeers BB and phones from VZW (over 200) and our rep will tell me yes or no if I ask, but he knows I'll keep it quiet.

They are under strict orders not to divulge future products. The reason is simple. They want you to buy a phone today, not tomorrow. They don't want people waiting for two months to become a customer if they can get them today.

I was surprised at the 8830 launch when VZW actually announced it was coming a few days before it was available and then only sold it through business channels for a couple weeks.

VZW 8330 / BES 4.1.6 on Notes 8.0.1

8330 < 8130 < 8830 < 8703e < 7130e < 7250

Verizon has done the business channel first and then consumers for some time now. They did it with the Treo 600, 650 and then the BB 8703 and 8830. In each case there were ticklers on their page for each product well in advance.
