Heard new blackberry was coming out in Jan, some 8000 series. Not sure tho, if it is might as well get the 7520 since u going to have to wait half a year. Bb 7520 is way better since you can type better, more memory, better back light, gps and bluetooth. Your gonna miss out on these goodies wit the 7510 for half a year.

Plus the 7520 ois not that expensive. Plus I do believe you can get a $100 pda credit, so the phone ends up being around a $100 after rebate also.

MIR $100.00
PDA CR $100.00
Final Cost: 49.99
How can you go wrong there for a blackberry?

Amen to that wish I would have paid 49.99 for it. I might not be as protective of it as i am.

Thanks all for your comments....since I don't have a PDA to turn in, the best price I can get is $149.....is it really that much better than the 7510? I know bluetooth is a big feature...no more wires...but then I have to get a bluetooth headset, probably another $100?

A lot of people are just buying a cheap pda off of ebay. Some of these pda's you get a $100 for, you can purchase for $20.

PIN Help (used 6280)
Hello all:
I purchaed a used 6280 on ebay from a 3rd party reseller, while trying to register the PIN with Cingulair (AT&T branded unit) they show that it is still assigned to the previous owner and will not release the PIN for re-assignment until that user cancels the service, of course they won't give me any contact info for the previous user. The SIM card that came with the unit is un-assigned in the network.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The seller has offered to refund my purtchase, but I would just as soon activate the unit.

I am in the same situation as the person who posted the original thread. With my 7510 - I e-mail 80% and speak 20%. My thought is that it may not be worth waiting for a 7100 model anyway and instead move towards the 7520. I don't know.

As an update, I went ahead and got the 7520 to replace my 7510. As mentioned many times by others, I was glad I made the upgrade. It has more memory, a better backlight, and bluetooth which I don't know how I lived without.

since i've had the 7520 i had to stop and ask myself how did i make it by with the 7510??
it was horrible in comparison to what i have now.....
but to stick to the topic, i dont think that anything new will be comin from BBerry/Nextel for a lil while...so far this would be the longest amount of time that i've held onto one phone which is a minor accomplishment...

7520 also has GPS capability. There are 3rd party services you can add to your Blackberry that will use the gps functionality to give you turn by turn driving directions.

I'd love it if they lost the antenna and stylized the external speaker so it didn't look like an after thought.....

I never had much luck with the GPS, on a clear day, away from any large building, standing on my tip toes, still no location. I would list it as a big selling point.

Not only that, but it's been scientifically proven that external antennas perform better than internal ones. That's why Mobile magazine (formerly known as Mobile PC) lists an external antenna as one of the MUST-HAVE features for their dream phone of the future.
Anyway... Since I haven't seen it posted yet, an image of the Nextel 7100 (the only one I know of, so far) can be seen HERE. Just looks like a 7100g reworked ever so slightly to fit in the extra stuff for Nextel. Shame they didn't make it black like the 7100x, though. It would've looked cooler AND more professional in black... Just like the 7100x does.
Now, let's hope that 2006 brings us a Nextel version of the Electron/8100/whatever they end up calling it!

i love my 7520 , i think only disapiontments i have maybe that when u DC someone the call ends to short when you want to respond and then you have to go back to "phone" icon and click again , and then theres the missed calls you get by browsing on the internet and IMing on ramble , oh and last one would be that i can't seem to turn the "speaker" option off when in the holster and "speaker" on when out of the holster , because sometimes it can be annoying at work when people just DC you , i mean hey maybe there might be an option and i dont know it , but i am a newbie lol..
but other then that yea im a crackberry addict

Actually, the working models i have seen dont really look like that. I know a couple people in R/D in Nextel that have models to beta test and its much closer in color and looks to the 7100t. It is white currently, and has an antenna in the same place as 7520. Release date, as i have been told, is Nov (mid to end) of this year. However, with the way Nextel releases phones (850, 860, 930, etc) it may be first quarter in 06.

yes they have but many of those have been "supposed" to be released for some time. I know all carriers have their delays, but it seems like the motorola delays seem to last longer than others, either that or its Nextel.

A word about antennas. As frequency goes up, antennas get smaller. Think about the TV you had when growing up. The VHF channels used the rabbit ears that were about 2 to 3 feet long. UHF channels used the loop that was about 1 foot looped.
Antennas on phones are no different. Nextel operates exclusively in the 800MHz band. T-Mobile operates exclusively in the 1900MHz band. That's why T-Mobile phones have no (visible) antenna. It is so small it can be fit inside the phone. Verizon includes a least a "nub" antenna on most of their phones. In fact, most Verizon phones are still AMPS capable. (Which is also in the 800 range)
AT&T and Cingular operate on 850 and 1900 bands. I think AT&T was leveraging more of the 850 space and Cingular was leveraging more of the 1900 space.
Inside Nextel phones is a metal tube that the antenna retracts into. When the antenna is down, you are using a 1/4 wave antenna. When fully extended you are using a 1/2 wave. (The external antenna and internal tube combine)
If you ever hear HAM operators talk, you'll hear things like "10 meter" and "2 meter" which refer to the wavelength. For a full wave antenna, the wave length is the same as the antenna length. A 10 meter band HAM radio antenna would be 10 meters long ideally. However fractional amounts are also effective which is why you may see a 15 foot or 7.5 foot antenna on a 10 meter system.
There are also more complex antenna designs which have different shapes but I don't think you'd ever see a Yagi antenna sticking out of your phone... You might put out an eye.

I tried looking around for the pic of the Nextel version of the 7100 but couldnt find it. Anyone on here have the link to it?
I have the 7520 now and I love it. Im just curious has anyone else went from a full size keyboard (7510/20) to the 7100 slip letter keyboard blackberry's? How is the typing on them? Do you need to push the letter twice, or hold a shift key?
Also when is the targeted release for the 7100 with Nextel? September-October?
Thanks, Shane

you can read all about the 7100s here and see that alot of the folks hate the keyboard on the 7100 alot of the reviews here are very negative about the 7100 I know they dont have any of the shortcut keys like we do on the 7520

yeah I love my 7520. I couldnt get used to the slip keyboard, but it would be nice to get something smaller. When is it supposed to be released so I can get my hands on one and try it out?

I have the 7520 now and I love it. Im just curious has anyone else went from a full size keyboard (7510/20) to the 7100 slip letter keyboard blackberry's? How is the typing on them? Do you need to push the letter twice, or hold a shift key?
Also when is the targeted release for the 7100 with Nextel? September-October?
Thanks, Shane

target release date is November. I use both a 7520 and 7100t and have little to no problems switching between either. The 7100 i would say is geared towards 1 handed typeing (in my opinion) because all the keys can be reached when holding the phone in one hand. however it is easier to type with two hands on the 7520.
