Well if you follow the above method correctly, you just plug in the BB and it updates (including backing up all previous data) automatically as it did in my case. All my previous data is still there....

Not true. BB8820 has a bunch of built in browsers....opera mini is just an option among many. Second, you need a data plan to get opera mini working....coz I tried installing it on mine and it didn't...

I have a BB8820 without any data plans, and my Wifi works fine. So, you don't need a data plan....in fact, not even a sim card to get your Wifi working. If you need any help how to set it up, PM me....
