I've noticed that if policies are applied to disallow messenger applications, sometimes those icons don't disappear.

Hard booting the devices should work to remove the icon- it's done so for me...

BES works fine in VMware ESx. Not sure about M$ Virtual Server as I haven't played around in those environments. My guess is that it works there also.
