I ran some additional experiments and if you use a cable from the external charger and use the Blackberry charging pod it appears to solve the charging issue and it successfully charges the 9930. ...

I've not had a problem with any of the chargers to work with all my previous Blackberry's but I have found a solution! I used a Belkin "power only" cable and it works. It opens my TeleNav...

I have the same issue and, in calling my service provider, it was related to me that it might be an impedance matching problem that is cable related. I tried several aftermarket external battery...
