I use the Symbol LS4208. I don't have any 7230's around anymore, but I've never had a problem with it.

I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but is the phone CDMA or GSM? While most of the data is definitely gone, there's a chance that you have contacts listed on the SIM card (assuming you use one)

After you add the email account, send the service books.
Check to make sure that on the home screen, you've selected "Show All" as the icon could be hidden.

If not, go to Options<Advanced...

Have you tried a battery pull yet?

I would suggest a clean install of the OS after you backup the phone.
