What you described is a soft reset and it has nothing to do with the problem; it is coincidence.

If the computer sees the BlackBerry when you connect on USB, you could try wiping with JL_CMDER and...

Humor me and start over from scratch.

Remove the battery, microSD card, and SIM card.

Connect to a wall charger. You hopefully see the LED light up red. If so, that will go on for a minute...

What prompted you to do the soft reset? That is, what was happening, what did you see?
