The 5.99 unlimited tmobile web plan does work on the Blackberry. However you will not be able to use the applications, just the web browsing and emails via the tzones webpage

Exactly my point.While on wi-fi The phone apps should connect to their destination even without the carrier knowing about it. hope BB realizes this and fixes it in the later OSs'
