You may also have to reinstall your service books, when I upgraded to 4.5 i had to go to Email Set up and reload Service books, that took care of getting the HTML email

If you are looking for a Rugged case I suggest either the Body Glove case....hard case that also covers screen with hard plastic, or the Otter Box case which covers all of phone including keyboard.

I had that issue, especially with Google maps however, I found the best way is to close application when done by going to your menu button and close out. I also figured out this was slowing my phone...
