Can you post a picture of what your talking about? What is that for? Was it installed when you bought the 8700?

You could hide icons in the home screen by Alt-clicking the app and selecting Hide...

I can verify that all you need is the connection...

I can verify that all you need is the connection label to be in ALL CAPS. I've been in areas with caps and lower-case for both connection types, and CAPS gives you data, lower-case does not.
