BBM sends/receives data from the RIM servers on a regular basis. It is just BBM checking in with the servers and sending/receiving updates on statuses and avatars. This is normal behavior.

Stop logging out of Facebook. Your BB will only sync if you are connected to Facebook by being logged in. Its a security feature.
