have you tried a reboot of the handset by removing the battery?

BES does not synchronize the total inbox - by default only the Inbox and Sent Items are sync'd.
If he wants other folders sync'd he should go to Options - Email Preferences then press the menu key...

As long as your operator has not disabled it you should be able to do an over the air update, however - its a large file so best done on wifi

Are you blackberrys connected to a BES server or a BESx server?
If its BESx then you can have just a BIS data plan. If they are on BESbyou will need the full BES plan.

Anyone can register and download BESx as long as your server meets the min requirements and you have a compatible mail system such as domino, exchange or Google apps for business.

Have you changed the default setting for how long the device keeps messages - from memory the default is 30 days so anything older gets deleted.

There is no need to create a dummy notes.ini file - just create a new location document and point it to your archive folder, then when syncing switch from your normal location document to the archive...
