I'm also seeing the same error on another app: FancyTran.

As I said, the permissions shown on the handset reflect exactly what is set in the BES ACP - "Server Network" is set to Allow and "Internet"...

Just realised that WiFi API is also allowed on the application control policy.

So:
Interprocess communication
Internal Network connections
Bluetooth Serial Profile
GPS API
WiFi API

Turns out it was permissions in the end. Bluetooth was the one I was missing, of all things.

The permissions I had to allow to get the app to work:

But what about the GPS itself? I'd kind of guessed that's what the application was doing, but it doesn't really explain why I can't get a GPS lock.

I disabled those as per freakinvibe's advice on the last page. It fixed some intermittent HTTP errors I was getting but not the missing images.

Adding new CALs is simple, just log into the BAS, go to Blackberry Solution Topology>Component view>Blackberry Administration Service, Click Edit component and enter the CAL.

I've wiped and reactivated a 9000 handset that I'm using for testing and sadly the problem is still the same.

We use bluecoat for corporate web filtering, not sure if that might have a bearing on...

I've done some more testing and I've found that some sites do load images properly.

Sites that load properly:
Yahoo! UK (http://uk.yahoo.com)
http://www.ebay.co.uk

Sites that don't load...

I've raised a call with O2 about this (we can't speak to RIM directly). As part of the troubleshooting I've set up a handset on a default policy and tested the wap/internet browser - this works fine...
