sound advice I think I'd screwed it with some third party app. Still does annoying things like resetting itself in my pocket and even weirder. Turning the camera on whilst the keypad is still locked....

true my colleagues just told me they keep all their smartphones on charge constantly. BTW a factory reset and not too many 3rd party apps got my BB sending sms's again :)

Thanks Ali. Seems to be when rebooting or using app store even though apparantly you are sposed to be able to use other apps when using the app store on this phone I am not finding that the case....

cheers Ali fair enough comments. the alt-shift key problems fixed themselves. The downgrading of the OS fixed the lock/unlock problem. BUT I still can't start the blackberry without doing a battery...

reverted to 5.0.0.586 last night and now have my unlock button back. Hopefully a future update will sort it for good

My lock button unlocks in the last OS but not the current one. It only locks in the current one (all this explained in my original post). Hope that clarifies things. I think I will semi permanently...
