Ok, I figured it out. It doesn't work with "Use Once" - I have to go to the actual email and then it work. I swear it was different on the 72xx series, but I'm probably just crazy! thanks!

When I compose on an email on my 8700g, pressing space doesn't insert an "@" symbol - it just adds a space. Same goes for the "."

I stopped by T-Mobile today and exchanged it for a new one with a perfect keyboard. It took about ten minutes. Good stuff.
