True it would still be archived but once deleted on the handheld it would still delete from Gmail, so I think it would still present the same issue. I have not tested yet, but will over the weekend...

Yes you need a data plan for the BB service to work. Tmobiles plan is $19.99 per month for unlimited BIS service so it is very competitive.

Not sure about 1 but for 2, I know that this has been buggy to say the least with many users. You may want to try a 3rd party solution like Agile for your IM services and hopefully the IM client...

yes unfortunately nokia pc suite is the only way to sync data. it does sync most of the contact fields, however i did find out that anniversary dates are not supported in the sync process.

I would highly doubt it since the unlock is imei specific and tmo does not even offer the 8700 at this time. Let alone it is a 8700c.
