U can use the keyboard lock, which enables u to press * Call Key to unlock the keyboard. Also u can put into Standby mode.

did u delete the VENDOR XML file. Cause when i was installing this i forgot to and then i got a 507 Error on my blackberry and then needed to download JL _Comander to wipe the BB and reinstall the OS...

Just to tell u i have the pearl and with the 4.5.0.81 OS loaded on it its really fast. Compared to the 4.2 that came with the device. I would get the curve over the PEarl since its got a full QWERTY...
