I have a feeling the Tour 2 is just around the corner. I would wait at least until Verizon or Sprint releases the Tour 2. I hate signing contacts for a phone that has a new model within weeks.

That sounds right. Most mobile phones in the US cannot send data while in a call (Internet, email, PIN messages). SMS are the only messages that get through.
