Yeah, it does sound sketchy. I kinda wonder if maybe a sim card or memory card is loose and has gotten in the way or perhaps the battery was put in backwards or has been damaged and now doesn't fit...

Pull your battery then remove your sim card as well as a memory card if there is one. Re-install them again and plug your device into the wall before restarting.

Have you tried to change your profile to something like "Loud" or "Medium" and then programmed those settings for double ring? It's a stretch but it really does sound like a software problem and this...
