The only way I was able to cure this is by doing a secure wipe, getting BBM functioning, and then restoring backups. It did effectively remove all of my bbm contacts.

Some downtime.

We had to do some updates of our PHP System. Unfortunately things did not go as planned so we saw some downtime as half of the server OS got recompiled.
