Do you carry the device in your pocket? Did it get wet?

If it did not get wet, then it might have dirt or lint under it that keeps it from hitting the contacts properly. To fix:

Turn the device off.

Press the button in and then scroll up and down, then to the right and left and then in all directions.

If you have some "canned air", you can shoot that around it as well while pressing the button.

Release and turn the device on.

Does it work? If not repeat the procedure at least one more time.
