I've had IM+ for a couple years now - on my Blackberry 7250 w/Verizon, and now with my T-Mobile Pearl - and I like it a lot. It's a pretty reliable program, and while it occassionally messes up, I still like it.
That being said, JiveTalk is free, and basically works just as well (I DLd it for the hell of it, even though I already have IM+). The only difference is that the IM+ on the Pearl lets you send files in instant messages. I keep them both and use them interchangably, but JiveTalk is a great free program. That web site someone posted above no longer hosts the app though, not sure how responsive their e-mail is
