I just found out that you can use the blackberry voice message recorder to record memos to yourself. You don't even need to send an MMS, here's how:

1. Click "Send voice note"
2. record your message
3. click the trackball and select send as MMS.
4. Select any contact to send it to (you can create a "dummy" contact for memos if you like.
5. When the mail program pops up to send the mms hit the menu key.
6. Select "Save as draft"
7. you can now listen to the memo in your message list.
