Default Why T-Mobile got the 8800 (Maybe???)

Please Login to Remove!

Just at my local t-mobile store and I was asking the rep about the 8820 and tmobile@home.... (At home in my area supposedly out in August????) Anyway he stated that why T-Mobile got the 8800 was because Cingular wasn't selling them like they expected, and they said the heck with it and sent them back to RIM and said, no thanks on the Exclusivity period.... Is this possible or is this just some dumb rumor that T-Mobile rep just heard and is repeating as fact... In my eyes makes sense though.... Let me know the error of my ways.... (Just no flame please!!!)

UPDATE: Oops forgot to mention that I was told the 8800's at T-Mobile were actually Cingular and now are re-branded t-mobile... (who knows.....)

I think your Tmo rep was feeding you lines. I don't believe Cingular had any exclusivity on the 8800, possibly a 30 day if any.

The 8800's that Tmo has aren't Cingular products rebadged. They're handhelds made by RIM that happen to be the exact same ones sold to Cingular, only with different branding.

I would agree, I just wonder why TMO is not selling the 8800 in the stores?

I got mine when it hit Monday morning and received it yesterday. (Probably because I pay them suckers so much money for years now)
They are offering it to existing customers first and then for retail sale in the stores.

Cingular had first dibs but for a short time.

So far so good and I like it a lot.

Jury is out on trackball.

Jury votes Aye on GPS.

It's a more business-oriented device. IIRC they did something similar when they initially offered the 8700.

As for an official reason why TMO opted for the 8800, store reps aren't the best source for such info.

Right -- it's like saying the 8700g is a rebadged 8700c. RIM markets models to multiple carriers.
