Maybe this'll change in the coming weeks or months - apparently Windows Live Mail has replaced Windows Mail (which BlackBerry Desktop current synchronizes with) in Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system...

It would make sense to add this functionality, considering how most PC users are apparently switching to Windows 7 from Windows XP and not Windows Vista, so lets keep our fingers crossed.

Windows Mail only syncs contacts.
And while you are correct, I don't see RIM adding the Windows Live Mail or Calendar to their list of syncable programs.
Why? Because RIM assume we all have outlook.

Wirelessly posted (RIM BlackBerry 8300 Curve)

That may well be true, but Research in Motion's (RIM) products are the ONLY devices I've used that can NATIVELY synchronize with Microsoft Outlook Express and Windows Mail, so maybe we'll get lucky...

It would be natural to expect RIM to not support Windows Live Mail, especially considering so few manufacturers support e-mail/PIM (personal information management) clients other than Outlook, but current support for Windows Mail is (hopefully) a positive sign.

Well, not really.
Because if you run DM on a pc with XP, the contacts would just be Address Book.
However, since it was integrated with Windows Mail in vista, thats why DM says Windows Mail/Contacts (or is it /Address Book; dont remember im on 7 now), not because they added support but thats just what the program recognised it was called now.
Just like it did not "add" support for Windows Calendar in vista.

It would be great if you were right, but I honestly don't see RIM doing this.
