Default Need to implement temporary phone replacement plans!

Please Login to Remove!

I wish cell phone service providers had short term replacement plans for people who are waiting for contracts to end or new phones to become available. My current 8830 is dead and I'm not about to upgrade to any of the phones currently offered (mainly because none of them are really upgrades).

If I could somehow rent or purchase a phone for limited use, that would be perfect!

I guess I could always buy another used phone and activate it, but that doesn't protect me from it failing as well.

That's exactly why I keep all my old phones. I usually upgrade for free before the old phone is actually broken or obsolete. Old phones are the best backups.

That makes sense. I just don't have an "old blackberry" since this was my first one I'm eagerly awaiting the 9500 from verizon. I hope it comes out soon.

If your situation is desperate, you can get a prepaid phone and use it until the new Blackberrys are released. Just a suggestion.

I believe that most carriers offer a warranty replacment program of some kind, provided your warranty hasn't expired, or you haven't run over your phone or dropped it in water.

I would go the prepaid phone route. I did this, but for an entirely different reason...I left my BB at home during a business trip. Whilst I did not get email, I did have a phone on the go. 30$...phone and card. Now if I ever get jammed up, down to the local box or drug store and I am back in business.

or maybe pick up an older model BB for cheap, esp. if yours is going to be out of commission for a while.

Prepaid phones are awesome. Sure, not as fun as a BB, but always a trusty standby.

Good ideas guys, thanks. I spoke to my rep who supplies VZW phones for our company, he wants to have his techs try to fix it for me so it will last until the Storm becomes available. Maybe they can replace the trackball sensor?? (I doubt it). We'll certainly give it a shot.
