Default Where to start...lots of issues

Please Login to Remove!

The facts:
Device: 7290
Provider: Cingular
BES: v3.60
Exchange 2003
# of users: one...me (small company)
Desktop Software v4

We recently installed a new Exchange Server, then burned the BES server and rebuilt it. Services on the BES machine are all running just fine; no problems there. Exchange mail to Outlook is running just fine; no problems there.

My problems are numerous:
1. When I connect the handheld to my laptop, I get prompted for the password which is fine. After I enter it, I see that I am connected but the Desktop Software is completely dithered. The handheld has the picture of the handheld and computer, but there is no animation. Both appear to be frozen.

2. In the BES admin app, I have deleted and created my user account several times. Curiously to me, I was never prompted for my PIN or IMEI. How does BES know about this? I can't find it in Exchange or Active Directory.

3. Also in the BES admin app, my user is constantly shown as "**Initializing"...for days on end.

4. I have an Enterprise Activation icon on my handheld but I can never get it to successfully activate. What email address and password should I even be using here (corporate email and domain password?)?

So some things I've tried:
A. Burned the BES and reinstalled...twice.

B. Uninstalled my Desktop Software and reinstalled...twice.

C. Removed all service books from the handheld, but because of the problems above I can't get any new ones on the handheld.

I don't even know what my questions are because everything seem so strange to me. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Start at the end - forget about Enterprise Activation unless you are on BES 4.0 or higher. Since you wrote that you are on 3.6, hide the icon since you can't use it.

The 3.6 BES PIN gets populated once you connect the BB via Desktop Manager.

It sounds like (and I am NOT a BES expert) that you may have not gotten the security correct between the BES and Exchange. The BES service account must have certain admin rights to your Exchange server for this to work properly.

Ok. I don't know how, but I got some of this working.

Thanks for the info on wireless activation; I've hidden that icon so it won't confuse me again.

Now what the issues that I have are:
1. Whenever I launch the Desktop Manager with the handheld in the cradle bot the Desktop Manager and the handheld just get frozen up. I have to either exit the software or disconnect the handheld.

2. While I have the option on the handheld, I cannot successfully "Reconile Now" on the handheld. I am getting and can send messages just fine, but cannot get the reconcile to actually do anything.

3. In the BES admin app, my status continues to be **Initializing, my Wireless Email Reconcilation says Disabled (can't find out to change that on the server), and the Mobile Data Service is Disabled, and my Policy Status is Pending, the Last Forward Time and Last Contact Time are both Not Available...yet I continue to receive email messages. It almost feels like they are somehow getting to me, but not going through my server...which seems impossible.

4. On my handheld under Options/Security I have no services...I think I used to as I thought I used to be able to regenerate keys or something.

5. On my handheld under Options/Service Book, all I have is the Web Client (CMIME); I thought I used to have others there but don't know what they were.

6. Finally, when I send myself an email from my handheld, it does not show up in my Sent items in my Exchange mailbox and it takes a long time to make it back to my handheld. It used to come to my inbox on my handheld immediately when the sent item was confirmed.

Anyone help with any or all of these symptoms?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Desktop Software again several times.
