Default Formatting 2gb Microcard + Mac?

Please Login to Remove!

Here's a noobish question:

I got a 2gb Microcard only to realize that I need to format it. I don't have the Thingy (sorry) that you pop the card in to format it (that you connect to the computer). But before I buy one, I want to make sure that it's feasible.

It looks like I need the Desktop Manager app to do it, but (non-Intel) Macs don't support that app. I have both Pocket Mac and Missing Sync apps. Is is possible to format the card through these programs?

If not, I seem to recall that you don't need to format a 1gb card-so am I stuck with that? Or am I doomed to have limited memory because I can't format any card?

Many thanks!

You can format the card right in the Pearl. Go to Options, Advanced Options, memory card, press the Menu key, then Format Card. Voila.

Errr, yeah-that would be terrific if I could even get to that screen-when I put the card in, I get the red blinky light and flickering screen o' doom. I've tried pulling the battery out...doom.

That's why I assumed that I need to format the card before inserting into the Pearl.

Thanks, tho.

Do you guys think it's because I can't upgrade my OS (through TMo) because I don't have Desktop Manager? :(

You imply that the BB boots properly without the SD card but won't boot with it - in which case I would suspect a bad SD card.

I am using the same SD card I previously used in a KRZR and the BB booted properly even though the card had previouslt been formatted in the KRZR and had data on it. While the BB showed the card and the free space, I couldn't find any of the files so I reformatted in the Pearl and re-uploaded the files to the correct directories as the Pearl wants to see them.

You should not have to format the card in order to get the BB to boot as long as the card is recognizable by the BB.

Ah crappers. It's a new card I got from buy.com through Amazon.com. I guess I can try to put it in someone else's phone to see it if it's a bad one.
