I have a blackberry curve 8330. I have had a media card in it for almost a year and havent had that many issues with it. Last night my battery died so i put it on the charger. When i woke up it says "media card can't be read, needs to be formatted" what is the problem? Is there anyway i can still use my card without formatting it?

Do you have a computer and a card reader? If so, try reading on the computer. If you can, copy everything off the card, format, then copy just your files back to the card. If you can't read the card, try repairing, etc. If you can't read and can't repair, then nothing to do but see if you can format the card and use it.

i have seen 83xx phones offer to format it themselves. i have had to scan and repair drives before they would work on desktop. using a microsd-to-usb adapter. i wish the phone would fix its own card

Don't know about other models and OS systems and which has the "fix" option in the menu, but as I understand it the fix when available simply recovers (or rather removes) lost sectors. Can't remember how I know that. But the point is it won't make an unworkable card readable/writeable. To do that -- and assuming the card is servicable -- it needs to be re-formatted.
