I recently had to revert back to my trusty old 8320 after my 8900 gave out. Probably about a year and half since I had actively been using it. One weird problem I have come across this time around is that a few minutes into a call (1-5 mins), the phone starts making a muffled buzzing sound, audible on both ends of the call, and then shuts down without rebooting! And by shut down, I mean dead screen, no keyboard, no trackball and no lights of any sort... This happens without fail on all calls, incoming or outgoing. Once it's shut down, battery pulls don't help for a while, as it goes through the boot up routine and shuts right back down again, after the desktop is loaded. You'd have to wait a half hour or more for the device to remain on, after a battery pull.
Later on, I accidentally discovered that this problem doesn't happen as long as the phone is hooked on to the charger. I can talk for as long as I want, no shut downs!
I thought this problem may be related to some corrupted OS files. So I used JL_Cmder to wipe the device and reinstalled the OS (V4.5), but no cigar!
So what you guys think? Is there a solution to this thing or do the gods not love me no more?
check the battery my 8300 was shutting down usually when the signal was low on a call and I had to plug it in to get it back come back on and it would take a little while on the charger to come on. I bought a new battery and it works fine now.
OK guys, so for future reference for all those who might come across this issue, it was indeed the battery. I put in a new one and the problem has gone away. I had to look around for a while, as the prices I was getting for the battery were exorbitant (as with everything else here in Canada, it seems ). Thankfully, I was able to find one at Telus mobility for a mere $20 and it did the job. Thanks to all who helped.
