It is rare to see just Office Outlook loaded on a machine. Generally, it is loaded with the MS Office Suite. It DOES NOT come as part of the Student/Basic bundle which generally sells for under $150.
Of course, many BlackBerry users are business people who have the luxury of a company-supplied PC with the Microsoft suite pre-loaded. These days however, BlackBerry is making inroads into the consumer market, and many of these people either see purchase of the MS Office suite as an unneeded expense, or they are only purchasing the Student/Basic version. Many are opting for alternatives, like the Open Source Open Office dot org suite, which is available for... free. Alongside these, there is also Mozilla's fine Thunderbird mail client and Evolution, a true Outlook killer.
Then of course, there are those consumers who tire of Vista's problems, and zero ability to backport to XP on many consumer grade PCs, and instead turn to a Linux-based solution like Ubuntu, which by-the-way just released a new version (Jaunty Jackalope, v.9.04).
For these folks, a good, workable solution has been slow in coming forward.
