Default Locked/Unlocked

question about your pearls, hopefully it's not just mine. when i have my keyboard locked and i move the scrollwheel the old menu of unlock, cancel, emergency call comes up and when i click on unlock it goes to the "keypad is locked, press talk/*" does anybody else's unlock when you click on unlock or do you all have to push the talk/*?

yep. happens on mine too. I think that's just the way it is now. Actually better for me as it is less likely to come unlocked accidentally.

i can't stand this. you SHOULD be able to unlock the phone/keyboard by pressing the pearl twice, just like you could press the trackwheel twice to unlock the keyboard on any other BB. RIM should also fix the problem with the trackball silencing the ringer. annoying as well.

Totally. They should have changed it so that the volume button silences the ringer instead.

Actually, whenever I comment (complain) to RIM about features in the 7100/8100 that I don't like, they tell me "It's a phone first". I disagree, but they will not be convinced

I thought it was a PUSH EMAIL device first then a phone, if it was a phone first well I think they would have a much more improved phone app.

So the BB is bouncing around in your pocket, taps your hip to bring up the unlock menu, then on your next step taps your hip to actually unlock...the elevator opens and you step out...as you step you hit the phone key, next step hits the phone key again...you're now making a phone call but the handheld is still in your pocket.

I personally like that you can't unlock the handheld with a simple double click of the trackball.

i don't see any way you could "accidently" push the trackball in TWICE to unlock it while it's in your pocket and then "accidently" make a call. if i have that kind of luck, i'm fully investing in lottery tickets!

Well, since many times i'll pull my Pearl out of my pocket and have the "Enter password" prompt up, I know that mine does the double trackball click...and i know that i've put it in my pocket unlocked and made phone calls in the past. so it does happen.

Is there a way to disable the "emergency call" function when it is locked? At work, one of my coworkers carries his in his pocket and has called 911 two times already. Is there an option to turn it off? I can't seem to find a fix yet.

The unlock thing is bothering me too. I hope they come out with a fix for it soon.

This applies to the BB 8100 only, as far as I know:

Press and hold the MUTE key located on the top of the device. This is essentially a keyboard/Convienience key lock. To "unlock" the device, simply press the mute button again.

Have you guys never owned any other bar phone before? You always have to do some keyboard combo to unlock it....
