Does anyone know how long BES will keep trying to sync with a device if the device is left switched off.

we have a user who was on long term sick (device was left off for a few months and when switched on GPRS is all ok but BES doesnt seem to want to communicate with the device any more)
last contact time 144 days ago.

I am arranging for the handset to be returned so I can wipe/re-activate but I would really like to know if there is a timeout whereby BES will stop talking to the device.

Depends on your environment and how your BES and IT Policy is configured.
By default, there is no "timeout" set for this.

What version of BES? Why do you need the device returned to you? Can't you simply do a wireless EA on the handheld to get the user up and running?

BES is pretty old unfortunately 4.0.4

wireless activation is how we do them anyways, but if the task is passed on to the end user or even one of the mobile engineers then things are bound to get messy

We generally have to setup and look after the devices ourselves (messaging team)

Only things in the policy are security based settings (i.e. password required, password length=x etc)

From what you have explained there is no timeout so I am assuming the issue may have been down to a problem with the device itself.
