Default Bold with TMO branding in Switzerland

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone ....I`m new here

I`ve just gotten a T-Mobile (Germany) branded Bold device and inserted an Orange (Switzerland) SIM. Everything works perfectly, except the browser access. There are two major problems:

1. Whenever I am not connected to a WiFi ... I`m getting an error message "This is a WiFi service....." when I try to open a page.

2. When I am indeed connected to a WiFi net another error message comes up, saying that there is no internet connection. ....but everything else works: email, PIN-IM....

Might this be because of the TMO branding and is there a way around that?

BTW. I dropped the mini-opera SW via Desktop Manager on the device. Whenever I try to install it by opening it an error message pops up yet again " Could not connect to the internet " or something like that and the installation fails.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Samy

Could you please check the following setting in the browser:
Open Browser
Open menu and select "Options"
Select "General Properties"

What is configured for "Default Browser"?

Hi Samy

I have bought a BB 9000 at T-Mobile in Germany as well. I inserted my Swisscom SIM card and I was able to browse the Internet. I have two browsers:

- Hotspot (only works via WLAN)
- Swisscom WAP (works via 2G or 3G)

So if Orange doesn't provide you with an access to Internet, you need to get the access either through activation at the Blackberry Enterprise Server of your employer or you install Blackberry Unite at home and browse via your home internet access.

Regards, Jason

Thanks for the replies!

@acnst it says "Hotspot-Browser" but there`s no way to change it. I click on it, but no other browser are available for selection.

@freakinvibe - I did check with oragen and they do provide access to the internet. However I am sure those are different settings than the activation at the BB Enterprise server. Also, browsing does not really work at home via WiFi as well.

Do you have the BlackBerry service plan from your carrier? Only when this service plan is booked, you will get the BlackBerry Browser listed.

That means that you have no other browser installed. If you have the blackberry service from Orange (at Swisscom you can chose from "Blackberry Standard" or "Blackberry Executive") you should get a second browser to choose from.

The Blackberry Service has to be activated by your carrier on your SIM card.

If you go to "Options" > "Advanced Options" > "Browser" you should see three sections:

- Default browser configuration

- Default MDS browser configuration

- Default WAP browser configuration

Do you see these options? If so, what browsers are listed?

There is only one option:
standard-browser configuration: Hotspot Browser (can not be changed to anything else)

....here`s news!

I`ve been told that Orange CH does not provide settings for the 9000 until it actually is released. I guess I have to wait another couple of weeks til that`s done.

On a different note. Does anyone know, why I keep getting copys of emails that I send from the the Bold? Meaning.... I send an email and seconds later I ma getting exactly that email... huh??

@samy23: Did you switch the device on the BIS website of Orange CH to the new Bold? Did you try resending the service books from there?

Question

I have exactly the same problem with my browser. I bought a Bold from Canada, unlocked. I am with Swisscom, and everything works great except I only have the option of using the Hotspot browser, there is no other choice. Does anyone know whether Swisscom have new service books for the Bold, or whether I should be waiting for them to be compatible? I have called Swisscom tech dept. loads of times, but they cant seem to help!

Angry Same browser problem

Hi All,

My bold also does NOT allow me to change browsers I am stuck on HOTSPOT BROWSER and can only browse when I have a wifi connection.
I bought my Blackberry bold from Orange Switzerland and am an orange switzerland subscriber. I then used the blackberry desktop software to switch devices from my old 8800 device to the new bold. This was done successfully, I then activated the accounts and went into the orange website to download the service books. Nothing has changed. Still the same problem. In addition, I downloaded the new operating system from the blakcberry website under orange switzerland service provider. Can someone please help me?

The T-Mobile USA users are having a similar problem. Until T-Mobile releases the device themselves, or at least has the T-Mo service books available, there will be no regular browser. Not with their service anyway. Maybe look into installing Opera Mini. The 9000 is not listed but the one for the 8820 should work fine.

Thanks. However, I bought the device directly from orange Switzerland and it has been launched at least a month ago and other orange users have got two choices.
